Darrell Green is best known as a former cornerback with the Washington Redskins. During his record-setting 20 year career with the team he came to be known and lovingly referred to as “Mr. Redskin.” His on field accomplishments include two Super Bowl victories, seven selections to the Pro Bowl, and four NFL Fastest Man competitions.

Darrell Green is also well known for his work off the field. As a proponent of education, service and moral development, he founded The Darrell Green Youth Life Foundation (DGYLF) in 1988 which provides a wide-range of academic development and values-based education programs through Youth Life Learning Centers (YLLC) operating in select urban, suburban, and rural neighborhoods. The foundation founded the Darrell Green Business Council for Youth in which 10 students a month from the DMV/Maryland/Northern Virginia area have the opportunity to have lunch with CEOs of local businesses. All of the students are eligible for a scholarship at the end of the school year.

In 2000, President Bush appointed Green Chairman of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. Green also sits on the Board of Directors for MainStreet Bank and the Greater Washington Sports Alliance, as well as the Advisory Board for Every Child Fed. Lastly, In 2013 Green was appointed Special Assistant to the athletic director for student athlete development and public relations at the University of Mary Washington.

Both Darrell’s dedication to a healthy and active lifestyle and his commitment to youth development make him an ideal role model, partner and spokesperson for the POWER Kids Expo. ENTERTAINMENT

Born in Washington, D.C., singer and recording artist, Marcus Canty, was raised by his mother in Palmer Park, Maryland along with his older sister in a full house with their aunt and her three children.

Basketball was Marcus’ first love, but by his early teens, music began to creep in. In 2009, Canty was chosen over hundreds of high school seniors across the nation by the National Foundation for Advancement In The Arts – YoungArt (which recognizes and supports America’s most talented 15-18 year olds in the visual, literary and performing arts), and inducted into the organization. After graduating high school in 2009 and exhausting the performance circuit around his native Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area, where he opened for Bow Wow, B5 and Hurricane Chris, the young tenor connected with an independent label from the Motor City.

While crafting what he hoped would garner a major label deal, Marcus heard about the “X Factor” auditions and saw his chance at stardom. Canty wowed “X Factor” judges , , and Reid with an explosive rendition of “I Wish.” He went on to make a successful run on the show, ultimately finishing in fourth place.

Now as he preps his own album, Marcus hopes to collaborate with Timbaland, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and even Quincy Jones.

POWER Kids is excited to have D.C. homegrown talent, Marcus Canty, performing both days of the Expo. SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES
