In ministering to teens, it is our responsibility to seek ministers that are able to provide healthy, safe and spiritually sound ministry. You will need to complete the diocesan background checks and Virtus training in order to minister to teens.

1. Take Virtus training class. Register by going to www.clevelandchildprotection.org. Click on "Virtus" on the left side. Then click on “Click to see schedule or register for a training session.” Select the Cleveland OH Diocese and choose a session that works for your schedule.

2. View three videos, provided by the Diocese, detailing the recent updates to the diocesan safe environment policies. They can be viewed by going to www.clevelandchildprotection.org and clicking on "In-Service Videos." After watching videos, and reading the policies and standards (see #3 and #4 below), you will print out a page from each of the policies (see below). There is a line on each of them that says: "I participated in the mandatory in-service on the 2016 Revised Policy for the Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse and the Standards of Conduct on (date)..." Put the date you watched the three videos on this line.

3. Read and sign the "Policy for Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse-Revised June 2016." It can be viewed and/or downloaded by going to www.clevelandchildprotection.org. Print out and sign p. 7-65 (the second to last full page) and return to Rectory.

4. Read and sign the “Standards of Conduct for Ministry - Revised June 2016.” It can be accessed from the same page. Again, print, sign, and date the last page and return to the Rectory.

5. Fingerprinting and background check. Call Cathy Marion at the Rectory to schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted: 330-467-7959 ext. 150.

6. Once you have taken the Virtus class, you will receive two monthly online bulletins to read. You must read and complete AT LEAST 24 of these bulletins. (You don't have to have them all done BEFORE you start volunteering... you will be sent links to them about twice a month after you attend the class, so just keep reading them and answering the question at the end of each bulletin.)

 Meet diocesan policy requirements for safe environment  Pray regularly for teens and other Core Members  Prepare for weekly Life Nights by reading through the agenda, and Bible & Catechism references  Attend weekly Life Nights and help lead small groups  Help plan, set-up, and lead one Life Night every two months  Attend monthly Core Night (day TBD based on Core availability)  Help chaperone other events when available (like retreats, concerts, etc)  Build healthy relationships with teens o Welcome teens at Mass o Welcome and talk to teens at Life Nights o Learn names of teens in your Household and try to get to know them o Touch base with teens in your Household once every two months  Encourage teens to attend other StBLT events, daily Mass (or Mass at all), Reconciliation, retreats, etc...

 Meet diocesan policy requirements for safe environment  Attend quarterly Confirmation Catechist planning meetings  Prepare, set-up, and lead one SCC per month  Set up and chaperone one service project with your group; contact Francine to obtain any necessary consent forms  Help make sure teens and their parents/guardian are completing their Prayer Journal entries each month  If teens misses your SCC, communicate with them and their parents/guardian when the Make Up session is for that month  Touch base with your SCC teens and their parents throughout the month o Email parents & teens and text teens a few days before your meeting with a reminder of date, time, location and reminder to complete Prayer Journal entries o Text teens day of your SCC and remind them to bring their books and Prayer Journal o Text teens thoughts of encouragement throughout the month  Get to know the teens in your SCC and help them get to know each other  Build healthy relationships with teens  Pray regularly for SCC members  Set positive tone for entire Confirmation Ministry  Encourage teens to attend other StBLT events, daily Mass (or Mass at all), Reconciliation, retreats, etc...  Help chaperone other events when available (like retreats, concerts, etc)
