An extensive online catalogue of accompanying videos, images and texts will be found via the exhibition pages on the Pace website to coincide with the exhibition opening. New Exhibit Showcases Muslim Women
New Exhibit Showcases Muslim Women Hello there, I’m June Simms in Washington. Thank you for joining us for As It Is. Today, we travel back in time to remember one of the most historic events in science fiction history. We also take a trip to New York City for an unusual photographic exhibit. But first, we hear about a new online exhibit that recognizes the work of Muslim women. The International Museum of Women has a new exhibit on its website. The exhibit showcases the artwork, voices and stories of modern Muslim women. It includes works by Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi and the Bangladeshi-American poet S. Nadia Hussain. Caty Weaver has our report. The show is called “Muslima: Muslim Women’s Art and Voices.” The Arabic word “muslima” means a woman who believes in God. Samina Ali organized the exhibit. She says one of its goals is to change negative images of Muslim women and to increase cross-cultural discussion. 1 learningenglish.voanews.com | Voice of America | May 25, 2013 “When we think of Muslim women, we think that they are weak, passive women who happens to also be veiled.” The Indian-born Muslim writer, artist and activist says the shows uses art, film, music and interviews to present a different view of Muslim women. It shows them being strong, involved and intense about improving their societies. “We have a beautiful documentary on there called “Half-Value Life” by Alka Sadat in Afghanistan and she’s speaking about the strife that women in Afghanistan have faced under the Taliban regime and continue to face now and how women aren’t valued.” The filmmaker documents the struggles of Marya Bashir, a lawyer and women's rights activist. -

The inauguration of the Louis Vuitton Foundation in late 2014 made a big splash, and now 2018 heralds a major opening: Lafayette Anticipations, the Galeries Lafayette cultural foundation. Contemporary art can also be viewed at key annual events like the FIAC, Art Paris Art Fair, Nuit blanche, and throughout the year at RY ART numerous spectacular exhibitions in institutions, as well as in leading or lesser-known galleries, art foundations and smaller venues. July 2018 will see the launch of a Japanese cultural season, with a series of Japan-themed art events taking place in various parts of France under the umbrella title ‘Japonismes 2018: les âmes en résonance’. Major exhibitions and other art-related events will place the spotlight on both traditional and contemporary aspects of Japanese culture. «Encrages» 76 Rue De Turenne : November 19, 2011 - January 7, 2012
JR «Encrages» 76 rue de Turenne : November 19, 2011 - January 7, 2012 The Galerie Perrotin is pleased to announce the first major solo show by JR, «Encrages» from 19 November 2011 to 7 January 2012. After displaying his work in the biggest Museum of the world, the walls of the cities, JR faces the walls of the Gallery. JR creates monumental photographs that he pastes around the world, infiltrating in urban life anonymous portraits, witnesses of the present and the past : «Women are Heroes» in Rio de Janeiro, Jaipur, Nairobi, etc. (2008-2010), which gave its title to JR’s movie that was selected at the Festival de Cannes in 2010 ; «The Wrinkles of the City» in Carthagena, Shanghai, Los Angeles etc. (2008-2011). JR reveals art by action, displaying his gigantic prints over the suburban buildings of Paris, on walls in the Middle East or in the United States, on broken bridges in Africa or in favelas in Brazil. He received the prestigious TED Prize in 2011 that offered him to make a «wish to change the world». With the Inside Out Project, JR brings together and prints portraits, as messages of personal identity ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PAy1zBtTbw&feature=youtube_gdata_player & http://www.insideoutproject.net ). On this occasion, photobooths printing large-scale self-portraits were seen during the summer in various places of the globe, including Paris, (Centre Pompidou), Arles (Rencontres de la Photographie), Tel Aviv or Ramallah. Never-seen before artwork and films will be shown, as well as a pasting on the facade of the Gallery. -
