Lake, woodland, hidden paths, hills, views In Brief This is a walk through the noble Greensand hills of Surrey, with several fascinating twists and unexpected encounters. There is one short climb and some gentler gradients, so this walk will seem longer than its 12 km (7 miles). There are only 4 stiles, all in one short stretch; they would be a * problem for all but a small dog, but a diversion* is available in Leg 2. Walkers have warned about bringing a dog through Upfolds Farm where the resident dogs are territorial. The going is easy and mainly dry underfoot because of the sand. The highlight has been the culminating point of the 1962 season in the form of the Annual Supper held at "The Crown” Hotel at Bookham on Friday 15th November when about 35 members and guests sat down to a very pleasant meal. The guests were mainly Old Boys belonging to other neighbouring clubs, together with the Surrey cricketer star "Billy" Smith (the brother of 'Smiler'). The only speech was a very comprehensive one from the skipper, Gerry Clow, while the Headmaster as chairman made the presentation awards to David Boxall, Sandy Hughes, Gordon Palmer and Alan Howells for their individual achievements with bat and ball. Sandy later had successful evening in flogging the admirable booklets he had produced on the season’s cricket. Altogether one of the most pleasant O.D. functions of the year. RAMBLES “An enjoyable ramble was held on Sunday 19th November, despite the showery weather. We went to Coldharbour for lunch via The Nower, Squire's Farm, Abinger Forest and Coldharbour Common. After lunch we went on to Leith Hill Tower, down to Friday Street via Wotton Common, along the Tillingbourne Valley and then on to Westcott. The next Ramble will be held on January 2 9 th starting at B o x h i l l Sta t i o n at 10.25am.
