Access footpath to lift There is NO ACCESS to the bridge footpath via the ramps which are for MOTOR VEHICLES ONLY. www.tayroadbridge.co.uk Interesting Facts • The Tay Road Bridge celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 • At 2,250 metres (1.4 miles), it is one of the longest road bridges in Europe • The bridge carries an average of 26,000 vehicles each day • A 15m tall obelisk stands at the Newport side, and a smaller one at the Dundee side • The bridge has a gradient of 1:81 running from 9.75m above sea-level in Dundee to 38.1 m in Fife What to see It takes about 30 minutes to walk across the bridge and when walking towards Dundee you can view the Dundee Law directly in line with the end of the bridge. There is also a fantastic view of Kengo Kuma’s V & A Museum of Design to the west on the waterfront, and Broughty Ferry Castle can be seen to the east. When walking to Fife, a white lighthouse, known as the High Light, or Tayport West Light, is located on the southern shore of the Tay. It is a private lighthouse operated and constructed by the city of Dundee and is still active today. Safety Advice Pedestrians and cyclists must be aware that the central walkway is shared use. Cyclists must give way to pedestrians at all times. It is noisy on the bridge even in nice weather and pedestrians cannot always hear you approaching. Cyclists please be prepared to slow down and stop if necessary. Design by Communications DCC KL/6/17 Communications Design by.
