    October 2020 Message from the Chair Dear Colleague RTS PROGRAMME AWARDS 2021 I am delighted to be the new Chair of the RTS Programme Awards. These are one of the gold standard awards in our industry and are an important showcase of the extraordinary talent evident across all genres in British television. We have taken on board feedback from the industry following last year’s awards. Our aim, as ever, is to reflect the changing television landscape and to make sure the categories recognise the kinds of programmes and talent that make up today's schedules and the best content in Britain. Following discussions with judges and entering companies we have implemented the following changes: • Updated eligibility period: The eligibility period will now follow the calendar year. For this changeover year entries will be accepted from programmes broadcast between 1 November 2019 and 31 December 2020. Please refer to the Conditions of Entry for further details. Please be aware that in order to accommodate this change we will not be able to allow extensions to the entry deadlines. • Minimum duration: We have introduced a minimum duration of 10 minutes (with the maximum duration still 15 minutes) for all performance categories • Comedy Entertainment: We have introduced a new Comedy Entertainment category alongside the existing Entertainment category. • Allocation of entries: in the genre and writing categories we will now limit the number of entries per category by broadcaster rather than by channel. Details of the new limit can be found within the description of each category. Entries in the performance categories remain at 5 per channel.

    Natalie Mitchell Writer, Producer Natalie writes for television, theatre and radio. She is currently developing projects with Red Planet Pictures and Bryncoed Productions. Her original audio drama, THE PIPER, was produced by Somethin' Else for BBC Sounds. Her play GERM FREE ADOLESCENT was on at The Bunker just before it closed down and her play THIS WOUNDED ISLAND, produced by Anything Other Theatre Company toured the south-east of England before playing at Theatre 503 at Battersea. Natalie was commissioned by the Synergy Theatre Project to write a play, TO MY YOUNGER SELF and her other recent play, WHEN THEY GO LOW was part of the 2018 Connections season at the National Theatre. She is a regular writer on EASTENDERS and has written an episode for series three of ACKLEY BRIDGE after having written on series two. In 2007, her first play CAN’T STAND ME NOW was presented as part of the Royal Court Young Writer’s Festival, which led to her representing England at the World Interplay Young Writer’s Festival. In 2010 Natalie was one of nine writers’ on the Royal Court’s ‘Supergroup’, and in 2012 she was on the final BBC Writer Academy, leading to her writing across Continuing Drama in 2013. She continues to write regularly for EASTENDERS and contributes to storylines. Natalie’s radio plays include PROUD for BBC Radio 3’s the Wire, HIDDEN HARM and afternoon play THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD, both for BBC Radio 4. In this context, media activities have become an even more important part of children’s lives; allowing them to connect with peers, explore their interests, learn about the world and stay entertained from the confines of their homes. This is the seventh wave of the Children’s Media Lives study. This longitudinal study of children’s digital media use started in 2014. Since then, each year we’ve tracked the online behaviours and experiences of 18 children aged between eight and 18. Interviewing these children annually has allowed us to gain insight into how different factors affect children’s media use, including age, family, social life and society as a whole.
