The Coffin Bay Sun December 2020 Initiative of the Coffin Bay Progress Association [email protected] AUSTRALIA DAY BREAKFAST! Everyone Welcome When: Tuesday 26th January 2021 8am till 10am Where: Coffin Bay Foreshore (Near the Coffin Bay Yacht Club) The Coffin Bay Sun Coffin Bay Progress PRESIDENTS REPORT Association Hello Coffin Bay, Can’t believe this is the last paper for 2020, a year that I though would drag on has rushed by as quickly as all the rest. Congratulations to Fi, Shane and their helpers for raising so much money at their Funky Junky Fundraiser for the Pontoons. With the Councils grant money and what they have raised the pontoons are going to be amazing. Thanks to Helen and Mike Bowyer for including Progress in their Open Garden SA weekend. It was a very pleasant way to raise money for Progress and we all had a wonderful time working there. Even though the Hall was closed for several months we still seem to have been very busy and it’s great to now see everyone back using the Hall and in the New Year hope to see more groups there, I’m working with a couple at the moment. Our spare room is looking great and just a couple of things left to do before Dr Rowe moves in on the 6 th January. Adrian Spears has painted the room for Dr Rowe and has done a lovely job. Have to thank Les and our neighbour Turtle for pulling up the old carpet and removing some old floor tiles. Don’t think the carpet had ever been cleaned and the dust was unbelievable. With Dr Rowe moving in we thought it was time to freshen up the toilets, going to have a bit of fun with colour and tiling. I would like to thank Holly Gill for doing such a great job getting the Sun out each month, not an easy job but one Progress and I’m sure the whole Community appreciates. I heard that the Halloween night was a great success with about 80 kids attending and fun was had by all, thankyou Therase and your helpers for organising it all. Policeman Ashley popped in for a while and we have spoken to him about holding a Blue Light disco in February. Shade cloth can drop the air temperature by as much as 15% during the day, so protect your plants this summer – white shade cloth is best. If your fruit tree is loaded with heavy crops this year, fruit thinning will help produce a better crop for next year. Do this soon after the trees have completed their first natural dropping of fruit, usually 4 – 6 weeks after the fruit sets, which is about now. …. And a final word for the year, mulch and water regularly over summer. Message from DR ROWE. NEW CONTACT DETAILS FOR DR CLAIRE ROWE and CHRISTMAS CLOSURES. Colour the Bay Coffin Bay stobie pole art project We have received approval from SA Power Networks to do artworks on a number of stobie poles along the Esplanade between the town entrance and the boat ramp carpark. The next stage is to submit designs to DC LEP for approval. Would you like to have one of your designs adorning a stobie pole? We are now calling for design ideas. The theme for the artworks is "Life in Coffin Bay". If you would like to submit a full design the dimensions for artworks are 2m height x 310mm wide, most poles will have artwork on both sides, so designs can wrap around the pole. Not artistic but would like to suggest some ideas? Please email them or write them down and drop them in to the PO, including your contact details. Ideas and designs to be submitted by the end of January. Would you like to fund an artwork? We are looking for funds to buy materials and to pay for some professional work for one of the poles.
