To cater to the diverse rail needs of the burgeoning populace, an array of modern facilities and services are being inducted into the system progressively Railways has achieved many significant milestones in the past 7 years. 3529 Route Kilometrage of Southern Railway network, accounting for about 70%, has been electrified till March 2021. Piloting with a passenger-centric vision, Southern Railway operated over 1303 Trains per day and transported over 800 million passengers annually in the pre-pandemic times. During the unprecedented nation-wide lockdown in 2020, Southern Railway, with its well formulated strategies to combat COVID-19, geared up to operate 507 Shramik Specials for the benefit of interstate workers and stranded persons. Besides, the zone has also been running special trains, workmen specials apart from special freight and Parcel services since last year. The dedicated team of railway officials are working relentlessly, focussing on developing infrastructure, enhancing capacity, operating passenger-friendly train services and ensuring safety, security and cleanliness. This booklet is aimed at listing out some of the important accomplishments in recent past and current projects in the constituency. We also seek your co-operation towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and to maintain cleanliness in rail premises. Passenger Amenities Provision of LED coach indication board at Dindigul at a cost ` 42 lakh Provision of Lifts at Dindigul station at a cost of ` 1.33 crore Construction of Foot Over Bridge at Ambaturai Station at a cost of ` 60 lakh Raising of platform at Kodaikanal Road at a cost of ` 26 lakh Provision of Platform shelter at Kodaikanal Road at a cost of ` 39 lakh Provision of low level shelters 4 bays each at Ayyalur, Vadamadurai and Tamaraipadi and 5 bays each at Ambaturai, Kodaikanal Road and Vadipatti stations at a cost of ` 82 lakh Improvements to Platform shelter at Dindigul at a cost of ` 20 lakh Water Fountain and water cascading with lighting commissioned at DG Dindigul under beautification of station An amount of ` 11 lakhs spent for Stainless steel benches in Kodaikanal Road (10 seater 10 nos), Amabtturai (10 seater 5 nos), Dindigul ( 10 seater 20 nos) & Ottanchattaram (10 seater 8 nos) Railway Stations An amount of `. 200 lakhs spent for Provision of Steel FOBs at Gomangalam and Palani stations 5 line Train arrival/departure display board provided at Palani station at a cost of ` 9.52 Lakh Provision of video surveillance system at Dindigul station provided under Nirbhaya fund Provision of LED based GPS clock 11 nos provided at Udumalaipettai, Gomangalam, Maivadi road, Pushpattur, Chatrapati, Akkaraipatti, Palani, Vadamadurai, Ayyalur, Kodaikanal Road Railway stations at a total cost of ` 9.18 Lakh Free Wifi provided at Vadipatti, Kodaikannal Road, Ambaturai, Dindigul, Tamaraipadi, Vadamadurai, Ayyalur, Akkaraipatti, Chatrapati, Oddanchatram, Palani, Pushpattur, Maivadi road, Udumalaipettai, Gomangalam, stations Provision of LED : 260 nos. of LED 18W, 13 nos. of LED 50W, 3nos. of LED 160W provided in PF at Dindigul to improve illumination level matching to airport lighting 8 nos. of LED 18W provided in Udumalaipettai (6nos.) and Kodaikkanal Road (2nos.) Railway Stations 15 nos. of LED 18W, LC no. 3, 30, 90 (6nos.), Platform –III/Dindigul (7nos.), Palani station(2nos.) and 2nos. of LED 100W, one no. of LED 50W provided in Dindigul station entrance 20 nos. of LED 25W street light fittings were provided in Tamaraipandi, Ayyalur, Vaiyampatti, Chettiyapatti, Kolatur,Samudaram, Manappari and Punggudi stations each. An amount of ` 13 Lakhs spent for Provision of AC, Lighting and power supply arrangements for video surveillance system at Dindigul station Dindigul Railway Station Palani Railway Station.

The demand of water is increasing day by day. So, groundwater resources play a vital role for additional demand by farmers and Industries and domestic usage leads to rapid development of groundwater. About 63% of available groundwater resources are now being used. However, the development is not uniform all over the State, and in certain districts of Tamil Nadu, intensive groundwater development had led to declining water levels, increasing trend of Over Exploited and Critical Firkas, saline water intrusion, etc. ADMINISTRATIVE SET UP The total geographical area of the Dindigul distict is6, 26,664 hectares, which is about 4.82 percent of the total geographical area of Tamil Nadu state.Thedistrict, is well connected by roads and railway lines with other towns within and outside Tamil Nadu.This district comprising 359 villages has been divided into 7 Taluks, 14 Blocks and 40 Firkas.

    INDUSTRIES DEPARTMENT POLICY NOTE 2006 – 2007 DEMAND NO. 27 INTRODUCTION The Government has a vision and a commitment. The vision is to accelerate the rate of economic growth in Tamil Nadu by maximising investment in industry and infrastructure. The objective is to give a boost to manufacturing, productivity, competitiveness and employment generation. Emphasis will be on enhancing the employability of the people and creating the right climate for all these to happen. The potential of the services sector will also be harnessed fully for economic development of the State. The commitment of the Government is to translate this vision into actuality within a time frame. 2. Accordingly, in the Budget speech for the year 2006-07, it has been announced that a new Industrial Policy will be announced in the current year, apart from setting up an Industrial Task Force under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Minister. The Task Force will not only focus on new initiatives but also address the problems of the existing industries. 3. Chennai and its adjoining areas have become a major focal point in attracting new investments. There are however infrastructure gaps which need to be addressed. A High Level Committee has therefore been formed to identify infrastructure projects and to pursue implementation with the goal of transforming Chennai and its surroundings into a World class investment destination. The other parts of the State will also receive equal attention. Industrial hubs and IT Parks will be set up in Tier II cities. The growth potential of the various regions will be fully harnessed.

Dindigul District was curved out of the Composite Madurai District and became a separate entity since 15.9.1985. This 28th publication is brought out with the hearty co-operation and earnestness of the Government Departments, Public Sector undertakings Private institutions and Quasi-Government bodies. This Hand book for the year 2016-17 contains key Statistical data pertaining to various socio-economic conditions prevailing in this district. The historical Rock Fort of this district was constructed by the famous Nayak King Muthukrishnappa Nayakker, It is located between 10005“ North 100 09” latitude and 77030” and 78020” East longitute, and its Mean Sea Level is (+) 280.11M This district is bound by Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Trichy districts on the North, by Sivaganga and Tiruchi District on the East, by Madurai district on the South and by Theni and Coimbatore Districts and Kerala State on the West.
