OK it does popularise classical music to some extent but the edges have been smoothed down somewhat. I would recommend anyone who likes him to go check out some other recordings of pieces you like to get a feel for how they should be. Thanks. Beginning with a west coast swing from Vancouver to Los Angeles, and including stops at Massey Hall in Toronto, Chicago’s Symphony Center, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Ludovico Einaudi embarks on “Essential Einaudi” North American tour (Oct 7-Nov 2) Page 2 of 4 Center, and New York’s storied Beacon Theatre, the tour includes material from the Italian pianist and composer’s ninth album, Elements, the first classical release in 23 years to break the Top 15 on Britain’s mainstream charts, as well as music from his hit film scores for Intouchables and Mommy, and much more. When Einaudi released Elements in 2015, it topped classical charts in 42 countries across the globe; upon reaching No. 12 in the UK, it became the highest-charting modern classical album since Henryk Górecki’s Symphony of Sorrowful Songs hit No. 6 in 1992. With what veteran music journalist Paul Morley calls his “total confidence that pretty can be profound,” Einaudi’s compositions have echoes of minimalist, ambient, world, and pop music, resulting in a style born to break genre barriers. He was the first classical act to play the iTunes Festival, on a line-up which included pop diva Lady Gaga and Grammy- winning rapper Kendrick Lamar.

  • Ludovico Einaudi Elements Tour
MEDIA RELEASE MONDAY 7 NOVEMBER 2016 SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE BY ARRANGEMENT WITH ARTS PROJECTS AUSTRALIA PRESENTS Ludovico Einaudi Elements Tour WEDNESDAY 15 FEBRUARY 2017, 9.00pm CONCERT HALL, SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE ‘Effortlessly poignant and heart-rending.’ THE LINE OF BEST FIT CROSSOVER CLASSICAL SUPERSTAR RETURNS TO THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE With three sold-out Concert Hall performances to his name, master of ‘atmospherica’ Ludovico Einaudi returns to the Sydney Opera House to perform Elements and more, together with an electro-acoustic ensemble and visuals. The Italian pianist has become the bridge between classical piano and the pop charts. He performed a stimulating medley of Sia’s ‘Elastic Heart’ and Sam Smith’s ‘Not The Only One’ on BBC Radio 1, his music soundtracks tearful X-Factor montages to the Oscar-winning Black Swan – and he still holds the title of the most streamed classical artist in the world. The sound he creates draws from palettes as disparate as Philip Glass, Stockhausen and Radiohead. Iggy Pop, Ricky Gervais, Lang Lang and Nicki Minaj all count themselves as fans. His performances, which he calls “collective meditation”, have filled the rooms of London’s Royal Albert Hall to the legendary Fabric nightclub. In performing Elements, Einaudi’s solo piano is surrounded by the textures of violin, cello, percussion, synthesizers and marimba, with minimal patterns and shapes in stark colours playing above the stage. “Carrying you like a wave,” says The Upcoming, “sometimes delicate, often passionately forceful”. "Italian maestro Ludovico Einaudi is nothing short of a phenomenon, selling out the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall 3 times 3 years running starting with his Australian debut here in 2013 as part of GRAPHIC", says Ben Marshall, Head of Contemporary Music at Sydney Opera House.

  • Streaming Is Now Included in the Official UK Charts – What Does This Mean for Artists?
Streaming is now included in the Official UK Charts – what does this mean for artists? Ariana Grande made history last week when her song “Problem” became the first ever UK single to reach #1 thanks to a combination of both streams and sales. The UK’s Official Charts Company now treats every 100 streams on audio services like Spotify as equivalent to one single sale meaning that all those Spotify streams you’re getting now count towards your chart position. So what does this mean for artists and their managers? It’s still early days but a number of trends and interesting changes are already emerging: In its first week streaming contributed, on average, over 20% of chart position within the Top 40. That’s the equivalent of 1 in every 5 “sales” coming from streaming; a significant proportion. This proportion is also set to rise rapidly as the overall volume of streams in the UK continues it’s rise. For context, in 2013 Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” was the first track to break a million streams in a week on Spotify in the UK. But in 2014 alone more than 10 tracks have broken that record with 2 of them (Rather Be by Clean Bandit and Waves by Mr. Probz) reaching over 1.5m streams in a week (equivalent to 15,000 sales). As Spotify and other streaming services continue to grow we’ll be seeing the amount of streams needed to hit #1 nearing 2m streams a week and as that volume increases the role streams will play in your chart position will become increasingly important.

Petr Gummenik (RUS) strikes gold again Petr Gummenik of Russia struck gold again in his second Grand Prix event and now tops the list of qualifiers for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Tomoki Hiwatashi (USA) earned his second silver medal on the circuit this season and Japan’s Koshiro Shimada took the bronze. Gummenik won the Short Program with a confident performance to “Czardas” that was highlighted by a triple Axel and a triple Lutz-triple toeloop combination. The 16-year-old then followed up with a strong performance to “Romeo and Juliet”, hitting a triple Axel, a somewhat shaky triple Axel-triple loop combination as well as four more clean triples and level four spins and footwork. Gummenik racked up 219.25 points. “The short program went well. In the free not everything went smoothly, but I more or less dealt with it,” the skater from St. Petersburg commented. “The Final means a lot to me. This is one of the most important competitions of the year. Now I want to make my program harder,” he added. Hiwatashi ranked third in the Short Program as he wobbled on his camel spin and underrotated the triple Lutz-triple toe combination. However, the 18-year-old landed a quad toe-triple toe combination in the Free Skating and pulled up to second at 215.16 points.
