Our safety start for the year has been impressive with outstanding MSHA February 12 inspections at Dells East & West, Brookings and Carbon Valley. Being compliant Chris Huber with government standards is obviously important and one measure of how we Railroad Cars are providing a safe work environment. We all know our business is inherently dangerous, but a good government inspection though is really just the beginning. Who is Everyone has heard of Mike Rowe – the Dirty Jobs guy. Please have a look at “The dirtiest man on TV”? the short YouTube video below. Mike tells a story of an episode he filmed on a fishing boat. He was scared and was looking for assurance from the Captain of Mike Rowe, as the host of Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel and the the boat that safety standards were being observed. Mike has narrated programs on the Discovery Channel, The Science Channel, and National Geographic Channel such as Deadliest Catch, How the Universe Works, and Shark Week. More recently, to help reinvigorate skilled trades. The mikeroweWORKS Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing careers in the skilled trades. However, in-person training was the only option for learning a trade. This meant attending a class or series of classes where the human senses played a major role in gaining understanding. Chefs learned to use their noses to determine freshness; mechanics learned to use their eyes and sense of touch when making repairs; carpenters and cabinet makers learned to use their eyes, noses, and sense of touch when working with wood. Now that the Internet is so pervasive in our lives, it has become the go-to place for any kind of information, instruction, and entertainment. While it is convenient and is a good place to start, in my opinion, it is causing us to lose the skills and attention to detail that allow you to be called a Master Craftsman or Master Tradesman. The Internet has indeed had a significant impact on education in general. You can now earn certificates, diplomas, degrees, and certifications via the Internet in just about any field. Having been raised in the era of going to brick-and-mortar institutions this author views the Internet a little differently: as a research tool, not as a learning tool. In college I earned the Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

This discipline, which includes researchers ranging from social studies to natural sciences, examines human-animal interactions. Understanding what affect these interactions have on a person’s perception of a species could be used to create better conservation strategies and policies. This thesis uses a mixed qualitative methodology to examine the public perception of great white sharks on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. While the area has a history of shark interactions, a shark related death in 2018 forced many people to re-evaluate how they view sharks. Not only did people express both positive and negative perceptions of the animals but they also discussed how the attack caused them to change their behavior in and around the ocean. Residents also acknowledged that the sharks were not the only problem living in the ocean. They often blame seals for the shark attacks, while also claiming they are a threat to the fishing industry.

This is the quickest turnaround ever in the history of the show ever and, I guess given its oceanic vibe, I like to think of it as some treasure that washed up on the beach, delivered to your senses while it’s still shimmering with sea froth, before it starts to stink. I have been tracking this Ologist for months and he was always off on expeditions in remote corners of the Earth being awesome and we had an appointment to talk SHAAAARKS last Friday, and then I realized, boy howdy! And then… he had to cancel, because of work stuff. Fair enough. But then he said he could record just hours before I got on a plane.
