2 2 NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO A THANK YOU GIFT DURING OUR 50TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR People typically give gifts to someone celebrating an anniversary. That’s a great tradition, but as WTVP launches a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary, we’re taking a different approach to gift-giving. In this issue of the Program Guide you will fi nd a preview of some of the programs and features WTVP will be gifting to the community in the coming months. I’m not talking about PBS programs, although the quality and variety of outstanding PBS programs will continue as you have come to expect. I’m talking about programs and features created, written and produced right here in Central Illinois. For 50 years, that has been our lasting gift to loyal viewers across the 22-county WTVP viewing area. LESLEY MATUSZAK Watch for new documentaries, an edgy new ag program, a new host for a well- WTVP President and CEO established interview show, collaborations with local organizations, enlightening interstitials, a new take on a WTVP classic and so much more. The two-part series is based on a novel by best-selling author David Nicholls. A SHOT OF AG PREMIERES WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23, 5:30 PM Rob “The Shark Farmer” Sharkey, a Bradford, IL, farmer, nationally known podcaster and digital media personality, brings his no-nonsense take on farming, farm life and the rural/ urban divide to Central Illinois. This is not your typical ag show. A Shot of Ag is part of the WTVP Business Block. CONSIDER THIS WITH CHRISTINE ZAK-EDMONDS PREMIERES IN JULY Beginning in July, Consider This has a new host — former WEEK news anchor, long-time Peorian and family advocate Christine Zak-Edmonds. She will apply her considerable interviewing skill and experience to conversations with some of the most interesting and infl uential people in our area. LEADERSHIP LESSONS FOR HOME, WORK AND LIFE PREMIERES THURSDAY, JUNE 24, 8:30 PM This six-part series sheds light on different aspects of leadership as seen through the eyes of more than a dozen local leaders in business, education, government and the nonprofi t sector. The host and moderator is Amy Burkett, author of The 7 D’s to Your Destiny, John Maxwell leadership trainer and general manager at WTVI-PBS in Charlotte, NC. You’ll gain a greater appreciation of our fascinating heritage and the things that connect us all. WORD OF THE WEEK Impress your friends, co-workers and teachers while expanding your vocabulary with the sometimes weird but always wonderful words on Word of the Week. There’s a new word every week, so the learning never stops! FROM THE HORSE’S MOUTH From the Horse’s Mouth reveals the colorful origins and meaning of everyday phrases and words. Facts and falsehoods all shed light on the idioms that add life to our language. GOOD TO KNOW You never know when you’ll have to open a wine bottle without a corkscrew, hang a picture using a fork or slice a watermelon without a knife. These tips, tricks and “life hacks” are all Good to Know in a pinch, or in everyday life. WTVPEOPLE This month WTVP ventured out to Galesburg and Bloomington to record the stories and comments of WTVPeople.
