Hannibal is defeated at the Battle of Zama by the Romans. 3rd Punic War Rome and Carthage 149-146 B.C.E. Carthage loses to the Romans once again and the Romans decide to “finish” them. They plow salt into their fields and burn their cities. Rome officially has control of Western Mediterranean trade.
