• Grubauer improved to 12-0-1 in his last 13 appearances at Ball Arena (1.18 GAA, .952 SV%, 3 SO), extending his franchise record for the longest home point streak • Landeskog notched his team-leading ninth power-play goal and eighth game-winning tally of the season. Both rank among the NHL leaders and sit one shy of his career highs (10 PPG and 9 GWG in 2018-19). He needs two goals to reach 20 for the eighth time. • Makar logged a career-high 28:57 of ice time

TONIGHT'S GAME COLORADO vs. SAN JOSE 6 p.m. Altitude / 92.5 FM The Avalanche hosts the Sharks in the second half of a back-to-back tonight at Ball Arena

BELLY 500 Pierre-Edouard Bellemare is expected to appear in his 500th NHL game tonight. The Le Blanc-Mensil, France native will join Antoine Roussel (554) as the only French players in NHL history to appear in 500 contests. Belly will be the third "French-born" player to hit the milestone, joining Roussel and Paul MacLean (719), who was born in France but is Canadian.

MAY DAY Tonight is the franchise's second game ever in May, as the Nordiques finished the shortened 1994-95 campaign with a 4-1 victory over the Hartford Whalers on May 3, 1995 at the Colisee in Quebec City.

HOME SWEET HOME Colorado is 13-0-1 in its last 14 games at Ball Arena, tied for the third-longest home point streak in franchise history. This 14-game run equals the longest stretch in the NHL this season, as the Islanders went 12-0-2 at home from Jan. 18–March 11. The Avs have won six straight on home ice, one shy of their season high (Mar. 10-25). It's the third different home win streak of five or more games in 2020-21, the first time Colorado has had three different five-game home win streaks since 2007-08. The Avs are out-scoring their opponents 95-50 on home ice (+45).

LONGEST HOME POINT STREAKS, FRANCHISE HISTORY 17 Jan. 20–Apr. 6, 2003 (14-0-2-1) 15 Mar. 1–May 3, 1995 (13-0-2) 14 Mar. 10, 2021 – present (13-0-1) 14 Nov. 19, 1983–Jan. 21, 1984 (11-0-3)

BACK-TO-BACK This is Colorado's eighth back-to-back of the season. The Avs are a combined 11-1-3 in back-to-backs, 7-1-0 in the first game and 4-0-3 in the second. They are attempting to sweep their third straight back-to-back, which would match a franchise record.

EVERYBODY'S WORKING FOR THE WEEKEND The Avs are 8-0-0 on Fridays this season and 5-1-2 on Saturdays.

ANOTHER WINNING MONTH The Avs finished 9-4-0 in April, the franchise's most wins and points (18) ever in the month of April. That comes on the heels of a league-best 12-2-3 record in March, which set franchise marks for wins and points in a month. April was the Avalanche's 13th consecutive "winning" month going back to February 2019, extending their franchise record. The previous mark was 10 straight winning months from March 2000 to Oct. 2001.

Nathan MacKinnon's 21 points (9g/12a) last month are a franchise record for April, topping Joe Sakic's 17 for Quebec in April 1995. Cale Makar's 15 points (3g/12a) were the most-ever by a Colorado/Quebec defenseman in April.

TAKE THE GRAND TOUR Last night's victory was the Avalanche's 1,000th regular-season win since moving to Denver (1000-727-101-142). Only five other teams have over 1,000 wins during that time span: Detroit (1059), Dallas (1023), Pittsburgh (1022), Washington (1011), St. Louis (1004).

BOTH ENDS OF THE ICE Colorado leads the NHL in goals/game (3.48) and ranks fourth in goals-against/game (2.42). Last night was the Avalanche's seventh shutout of the year, second most in the NHL (Islanders, nine) and Colorado's most clean sheets since 2009-10 (eight). The Avs are 27-2-3 when scoring three or more goals this season and 30-4-1 when allowing three or fewer (27-1 when allowing two or less).

ALL GOOD THINGS.... Nathan MacKinnon saw his 15-game point streak come to an end last night. The streak was a career high, the longest run in the NHL this season and the longest streak by an Avalanche player since Paul Stastny’s 20-game run in 2006-07.

LONGEST POINT STREAKS, 2020-21 15 Nathan MacKinnon (COL) Mar. 27–Apr. 28 14 Dougie Hamilton (CAR) Feb. 27–Mar. 27 13 Auston Matthews (TOR) Jan. 24–Feb. 20

ALL GOOD THINGS (PART II)..... MacKinnon did not record a shot on goal last night, snapping his franchise record streak of 263 consecutive games with at least one shot. That was by far the longest active streak in the NHL.

PLAYOFF BOUND The Avalanche have clinched a playoff berth for the fourth straight year, the third-longest run in franchise history. Quebec/Colorado made 11 straight trips to the postseason from 1994-95 to 2005-06 and the Nordiques made seven straight from 1980-87. This will be the 26th postseason appearance in franchise history and 17th since moving to Denver.

QUICK TO CLINCH The Avalanche on April 22 became the second NHL team to clinch this season, one night after Vegas (although Colorado did it in two fewer games). The Avs completed 79% of their season at the time of clinching (44 of 56 games). Only the 1992-93 Nordiques completed less of their season at the time of clinching in franchise history (77%, 65/84).

KEEP ROLLING Colorado is 11-4-0 in its last 15 games, 19-4-2 in its last 25 contests and 23-6-3 in last 32. The Avs posted their best 20-game stretch in franchise history from March 10–April 14 (17-1-2), tied their best 25-game stretch from Feb. 26–April 11 (19-3-3) and matched their best 30-game stretch from Feb. 26–April 26 (22-5-3). Colorado's 32 wins are its most-ever through 48 games while its 68 points are the second most behind only the 2000-01 squad (71). The Avs were the first club to reach 30 wins (April 14) and 60 points (April 11) and the last to suffer its 10th regulation loss (April 24).

BEST RECORD THROUGH 48 GP 71 2000-01 (31-8-8-1) 68 2020-21 (32-12-4) 67 2013-14 (31-12-5)

ALL HAIL CALE Cale Makar has 37 points (6g/31a) in 36 games this season, the only NHL defenseman to average over a point-per-game in 2020-21. His 0.94 career points/game average is the sixth-highest ever by a blueliner behind Bobby Orr (1.39), Harry Cameron (1.10), Paul Coffey (1.09), Denis Potvin (0.99) and Ray Bourque (0.98). Makar had 85 points (17g/68a) through 90 career games, tied with Brian Leetch (1988-89) for the fourth-most by a blueliner in NHL history. Only Cameron (103 from 1917-22), Mark Howe (96 from 1979-80) and Larry Murphy (88 from '80-81) had more.

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Colorado ranks second in the NHL in shots-per-game (34.6) and is first in shots-against-per-game (25.5). The Avs pace the NHL in shot differential (+436), out-shooting the opposition by an average of nine shots per night. Colorado has out-shot its opponents in 39 of its 48 contests this season (most in NHL) and own a 27-10-2 record when holding an edge in shots, the most wins of any club.

SOMETHING SPECIAL The Avalanche ranks among the NHL's top 10 in both power play (6th–24.0%) and penalty killing (8th–82.3%). Only once in the past 15 years has Colorado finished among the top 10 in both categories (2017-18). The Avs rank fourth in both home PP (26.4) and home PK (87.8).

YOU'RE THE FIRST, THE LAST, MY EVERYTHING The Avs have scored the first goal of the game 33 times this season, most in the NHL. Colorado is 27-4-2 when scoring first, the most wins of any team

CROWDED HOUSE The Avs have used 15 different defenseman in 2020-21, tied with Nashville for the most of any team. Only one season in franchise history featured more, 2010-11 (16).

HITTING THE "BENCH" MARKS Jared Bednar coached his 360th career NHL game on April 22, passing Bob Hartley for the most regular-season games coached in Avalanche history (since 1995). Bednar has joined Hartley (1999-02) as the only coaches since the franchise relocated to lead Colorado to four straight playoff berths. Jared owns a 177-148-39 (.540) career record, ranking second in wins to only Hartley's 193 since the team relocated. Hired on Aug. 25, 2016, Bednar is the sixth-longest tenured head coach in the NHL behind Jon Cooper (3/25/13), Paul Maurice (1/12/14), Jeff Blashill (6/9/15), John Tortorella (10/21/15) and Mike Sullivan (12/12/15).

AVS & SHARKS The Avs and Sharks close out their season series with four straight meetings. Colorado is 4-1-0 against San Jose, 3-0-0 at home. The Avs have shut out the Sharks in each of the last two meetings overall and each of the last two home matchups.

MR. SHARK...Patrick Marleau broke the all-time record on Apr. 19, 2021 in Vegas, which was previously held by Gordie Howe, and according to NHL Stats and Information, Marleau is the first player from the NHL, NBA, NFL or MLB to dethrone an all-time regular-season games played leader in more than 16 years – kicker Morten Andersen was the last to do so, taking the NFL’s crown from George Blanda on Sept. 26, 2004. Howe had held the distinction since Nov. 26, 1961 when he became the first player in NHL history to reach 1,000 games played. Currently Marleau has appeared in 1,773 games.

JOURNEYMAN...Patrick Marleau appeared in his 23rd NHL season, tied for seventh-most in NHL history. Zdeno Chara and Joe Thornton are the only other active players with at least 23 NHL seasons under their belt. Across his NHL career, Marleau has skated in 1,773 NHL games, most in NHL history. He has passed G. Howe (1,767), M. Messier (1,756), J. Jagr (1,733) and R. Francis (1,731) this season. Marleau is also only one of two players to score at least one game-winning goal against 30 of the 31 NHL clubs, having not scored against VGK (Jeff Carter, all but DET). Marleau also skated in his 900th consecutive game on Apr. 21 to become the fourth player in history to reach the threshold.

APPLE ORCHARD...Brent Burns registered his 500th career NHL assist in the game against Los Angeles on 4/2. He became the 30th defenseman in NHL history to reach the mark and was the 19th defenseman to achieve at least 200 goals and 500 assists. Burns is now one of three active defensemen with at least 500 assists.

CALIFORNIA KING...The Sharks this season won all but six games against their California rivals in the Ducks and Kings (10-5-1). The Sharks posted two shutouts against the teams and since the start of the 2015-16 season, San Jose is 33-17-7 against Los Angeles (19-6-4) and Anaheim (14- 11-3).

MODEL OF CONSISTENCY…Since being named the team’s general manager on May 13, 2003, Doug Wilson has strategically built the San Jose Sharks into one of the NHL’s top franchises through strong drafting, shrewd trades and timely free agent signings. In his 15 seasons in charge of the Sharks hockey department, Wilson has guided the team to its most successful era since the franchise’s inception, capturing a Presidents’ Trophy (2009), five Pacific Division titles, advancing to the Western Conference Final on five occasions (2004, 2010, 2011, 2016, 2019) and appearing in the Stanley Cup Final (2016).
