Fac. Fish., Kagoshima Univ. Vol.29 pp. 81-121 (1980) Fishing Methods and Gears in Panay Island, Philippines*1 Gunzo Kawamura*2 and Teodora Bagarinao*3 Abstract The authors surveyed the fishing methods and gears in Panay and smaller neighboring islands in the Philippines in September-December 1979 and in March-May 1980. This paper is a report on the fishing methods and gears used in these islands, with special focus on the traditional and primitive ones. The term "fishing" is commonly used to mean the capture of many aquatic animals — fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, coelenterates, echinoderms, sponges, and even birds and mammals. Moreover, the harvesting of algae underwater or from the intertidal zone is often an important job for the fishermen. Fishing method is the manner by which the aquatic organisms are captured or collected; fishing gear is the implement developed for the purpose. Oftentimes, the gear alone is not sufficient and auxiliary instruments have to be used to realize a method. A fishing method can be applied by means of various gears, just as a fishing gear can sometimes be used in the appli cation of several methods. Commonly, only commercial fishing is covered in fisheries reports. Although traditional and primitive fishing is done on a small scale, it is still very important from the viewpoint of supply of animal protein.

GUIDE TO THE CLASSIFICATION OF FISHING GEAR IN THE PHILIPPINES By AGUSTIN F. UMALI, Ichthyologist Illustrations by Silas G. Duran RESEARCH REPORT 17 Fish and Wildlife Service, Albert M. Day, Director United States Department of the Interior, Oscar L. Chapman, Secretary UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE : 1950 For sale by the Superintendent of Documents, United States Government Printing Office Washington 25, D. C. - Price 40 cents ABSTRACT One of the serious handicaps in the administration and manage ment of the fisheries of the Philippines has been the lack of standardized nomenclature for fishing gear. This publication attempts to solve the problem. It is divided into five parts: The first presents a basic clas sification of fishing gear; the second is a key by means of which fishing gear can be identified and new terms for fishing gear can be properly classified; the third defines and illustrates various types of fishing gear; the fourth is a tabular classification of local Filipino di alect names; and the fifth is a glossary including definitions of more than a thousand terms. • Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Price List
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Price List Introduction to Universal Price List System Purpose This system was started in 1982 with the intention of providing a comprehensive pricing and encumbrance system for all the medieval fantasy games systems currently in use in the club where I used to role-play. It has been used, and still is being used, by a number of GMs for various games systems including Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, DragonQuest, HârnMaster, RoleMaster and RuneQuest. In fact the system became a club standard, which eased moving characters between various games. The intention of this system is to replace the monetary system and the (often woefully incomplete) price lists provided with the games system. However, it is assumed that one penny is equal to the basic unit of currency in the game system when it is required to translate prices from the host game to this system. For instance, one AD&D silver piece is equivalent to 1d in this system. Prices are quoted in pennies which is the basic silver coin, where 1d is one penny. Since I use a system of twelve pennies equalling one schilling, a lot of the more expensive items are quote in multiples of 3d. My fatigue / encumbrance systems work on weight of the item. Weight of most items likely to be carried are quoted in pounds (lb.) to the nearest 1/10th or ¼ of a pound for small items (and occasionally in fractions of an ounce (oz)). The price list is categorised by occupation, which do not necessarily have anything to do with guild structure, nor do they imply that goods are only sold in such specialist shops/workshops.

CURATOR OF THE TOWER ARMOURIES PREFACE DO not propose, in this work, to consider the history or develop- ment of defensive armour, for this has been more or less fully I discussed in v^orks which deal with the subject from the historical side of the question. I have rather endeavoured to compile a work which will, in some measure, fill up a gap in the subject, by collecting all the records and references, especially in English documents, which relate to the actual making of armour and the regulations which con- trolled the Armourer and his Craft.

  • The Details of English Fashions of the Sixteenth Century: Men's Clothing
The Details of English Fashions of the Sixteenth Century: Men’s Clothing Examined by Decade by Margaret Roe Also published online at http://www.margaretroedesigns.com/fashions.html © 2010 1 Overview 1500s Shirts, cuffs and collars The shirt of the 1500s was full in the body, gathered into the neckline, sometimes with a narrow collar and sometimes into a scoop-neckline. The sleeves are unseen, but are probably either gathered into a small cuff or simply hemmed. Blackwork is not yet seen at the edges of men's shirts. Breeches Breeches of this decade continued to be the joined hose and codpiece of the fifteenth century. Doublets and jerkins Both doublets and jerkins are worn at this time. The doublet usually had a narrow standing collar, no more than 1" high, whereas the jerkin had a low, round neckline. Both had long skirts, extending to the knees, and both were simplify trimmed. Sleeves Sleeves are often difficult to see under the overgown, but appear to be of two common styles: either narrow but loose sleeves, or narrow to just above the elbow and full to the shoulder, possibly stuffed or padded to maintain a full shape. Sleeves usually matched the doublet or jerkin and were probably sewn into it. Over garments Finally, overgowns are seen in most portraits. These gowns fall either to mid-calf or to the ankles. They most often have very full, long sleeves, but occasionally, the sleeves are only elbow-length or are turned back over the elbows. The collar is turned back around the neck to reveal a different colored lining, which was sometimes fur.

We seek studies that engage theory without losing touch with history and work historically without falling into uncritical positivism. FlashPoints aims for a broad audience within the humanities and the social sciences concerned with mo- ments of cultural emergence and transformation.
