I have begun reading this before bed and actually have to stop myself from reading into the night. I got this when it first came out and am re-reading it years later. The detail it perfect and just enough to picture it in your own way. you get excited for her and feel for the characters through out the stories. The chapters are short so you can pick it up and read in the inbetween moments too, without feeling like you have to commit or will get left hanging. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great By Lisa J Judy Blume has always been one of my favorite authors, ever since I was starting 4th grade and picked up "Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing." I'm glad that she also has a few adult books. "Wifey" follows the life of a married, stay at home mother of two, during 1970. She isn't happy with her life, and struggles to try and change some things. "Smart Women" takes the side of a divorced mother of two with a steady job in the 1970's. This woman is trying to balance her children, a new love, and her friends. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. WIFEY / SMART WOMEN By Annie I really like Judy Blume - Wifey, I had no idea what this book was all about so I was surprised the more I read. The only thing about it was that someone wrote: Hide this book from your kids. I guess that's a good idea. Even though I liked it because the way she writes, you do not want to put the book down. Smart Women - This one I enjoyed very much and must say I will read again, even though I really don't read books twice. This was another book you don't want to put down because you absolutely want to find out what happens next. Right now Ii am on a hunt for more Judy Blume's books because I like her writing so very much. See all 6 customer reviews... • Banned Books 2006.Pmd
FREE 10th Annual Report on PEOPLE Banned and Challenged Books READ in Texas Schools FREELY 2005-2006 School Year and exclusive interview with banned book author JUDY BLUME NATIONAL BANNED BOOKS WEEK 2006 September 23, 2006 INTRODUCTION Nothing could be simpler than the truly American notion that free people read freely. Yet every year in Texas, schools fall victim to censors who wish to restrict the knowledge available to students. Censorship breeds ignorance. No school funding plan can improve education in our state when knowledge itself is forbidden. Reading books that challenge assumptions, that tackle difficult or controversial subjects, or that contain thoughts or language that some find objectionable does not harm students. Rather the contrary. Students learn from being exposed to new ideas. They develop an appreciation for different viewpoints. They are better able to function effectively in a di- verse society, and are better able to serve our communities and our state as leaders. In other words, they grow capable of exercising the rights and freedoms all Texans are entitled to enjoy. Each year for ten years, the ACLU Foundation of Texas has published this annual report of books banned or challenged in Texas schools. Our report spotlights schools that ban books from library shelves or from classroom reading lists. But just as importantly, our report highlights schools that decide to retain a book despite a challenge by a parent, a student, a school official or a member of the public. This report is only as useful as its users. Who’s going to stand up in communities where books are banned? Who’s going to speak out when great (and lesser) works of literature are censored? The most effective local advocates are local citizens– that means you, the concerned members of the community, parents, teachers, librarians and most importantly, students.

Not bad, but not perfect.By R. PylmanI'm a big fan of Ms Blume's work. Books like Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret and Then Again, Maybe I Won't were a huge part of my adolescence. So when Gilmore Girls revealed to me that there was a Judy Blume book I hadn't read, I ran out and grabbed it right up.And... I was a little disappointed. This felt to me like the first third of a really good book, not a complete work. Storylines are started that get dropped, opportunities are missed, and in all, it feels... incomplete. Maybe it's because I'm no longer in the target audience, but it just feels to me like this is not Ms Blume's best work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. DeniseBy Tracy ValureAs a young girl Judy Blume was my favorite author. I still remember reading "Are you there God? It's me Margaret" like it was yesterday. My daughter was recently diagnosed with scoliosis and will be getting her brace this week.
