Without your support, we would have never been able to achieve what took place in 2013. Thanks to the support and commitment from 117 outstanding donors, the Association raised over $90,000 in 2013. We especially appreciate the generous contribution from the Strahan Foundation. The board of directors contributed over $67,000 on behalf of the Strahan Foundation to be used towards the construction of the Bobcat Stadium Pavilion project, currently being constructed in the southwest corner of Bobcat Stadium. We also want to thank all of our athletic alumni who purchased season tickets and joined the Bobcat Club.   • Head Coach Mike Miller
    WWW.EIUPANTHERS.COM HEAD COACH MIKE MILLER Eastern Illinois University head coach Mike Miller has a history of turning programs around and as he enters his fourth season at the helm of the Panthers program he appears to have the fortunes of the EIU program headed in the right direction. Hired in mid-April of 2005 after five years as the associate head coach at Kansas State University, Miller has already produced two Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in his short tenure at EIU. In addition his first full recruiting class in 2006 was rated as the best in the OVC by HoopScoop.com while also ranking in the Top 100 recruiting classes nationally. The Panthers latest recruiting class was ranked second in the OVC by HoopScoop.com and 61st nationally. Among the seven new faces Miller and his staff were able to bring in among that top class were the school’s first freshman to lead the program in scoring in the NCAA Division I era in Romain Martin and only the second freshman to lead the team in rebounding as a NCAA Division I school in Ousmane Cisse. Originally from Monmouth, Illinois, Miller has always had ties to the deep tradition of basketball in the State of Illinois and surrounding region. He and his staff (all local products themselves) have emphasized getting the best talent in the area that fits their system. In 2007 they have once again accomplished that with two top recruits from Michigan and Wisconsin. Miller’s second season at EIU the Panthers progressed as a team was able to finish strong in the final month by winning five games and making a late run at the OVC Tournament.

Scoring and Shooting Abilities of NBA Players James Piette, Sathyanarayan Anand, and Kai Zhang Abstract We propose two new measures for evaluating offensive ability of NBA players, using one- dimensional shooting data from three seasons beginning with the 2004-05 season. These measures improve upon currently employed shooting statistics by accounting for the varying shooting patterns of players over different distances from the basket. This variance also provides us with an intuitive metric for clustering players, wherein performance of players is calculated and compared to his cluster center as a baseline. To further improve the accuracy of our measures, we develop our own variation of smoothing and shrinkage, reducing any small sample biases and abnormalities. The first measure, SCAB or, Scoring Ability Above Baseline, measures a player's ability to score as a function of time on court. The second metric, SHTAB or Shooting Ability, calculates a player's propensity to score on a per-shot basis. Our results show that a combination of SCAB and SHTAB can be used to separate out players based on their offensive game.
