April 23, 2015 MAC DEMARCO ANNOUNCES ANOTHER ONE April 22, 2015 For Immediate Release MAC DEMARCO TO RELEASE ANOTHER ONE, MINI-LP OUT AUGUST 7TH ON CAPTURED TRACKS; https://youtu.be/kXrv2IQZsV4 ANNOUNCES AUGUST TOUR INCLUDING FOUR NEW YORK SHOWS: BOWERY BALLROOM, WEBSTER HALL, MUSIC HALL OF WILLIAMSBURG & WARSAW (above image by Coley Brown) Like the days of Steely Dan, Harry Nilsson or Prince releasing a classic every year (or less) comes Mac DeMarco's Another One, a mini-LP announced almost one year to the date of the meteorically successful Salad Days. Conceived and recorded entirely by himself in a short period between a relentless tour schedule at his new place in Far Rockaway, Queens, Another One is eight, freshly written songs, expanding the arsenal of Mac's already impressive catalog. There’s a bittersweet, romantic sensibility present. The overall feeling is lost love, or perhaps love never found, yet Mac embraces this without making it an overly somber experience for the listener. It’s at times haunting and warm, and a bit more refined and sophisticated, but still plenty playful, retaining the guts and soul of classic Mac. With two full-length albums and two EPs released and hundreds of sold out shows performed in the last several years, a recent late night television debut on Conan following a special guest performance on The Eric Andre Show, it seems as Mac DeMarco nears his 25th birthday, he’s outgrowing any sort of slacker stigma. This summer, Mac will play festivals all over the country, including Shaky Knees, Austin Psych Fest, Pitchfork Music Festival, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, Solid Sound and more. As expected, he’ll continue to tour extensively in support of Another One, further connecting with his ever-inspired fanbase, whether in New York City, Tel Aviv, Brazil or Australia. Shortly after the album’s release, Mac will do a four night run in New York playing the Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, Music Hall of Williamsburg, and Warsaw. Another One is out August 7th on Captured Tracks and available for pre-order now. Pre-order customers will receive bonus instrumentals of Another One. • Cooper Square Committee Chrono
Cooper Square Committee Chrono A listing of Cooper Square events and activities - including victories and defeats - from March 1959 through March 2005. Prepared by: Walter Thabit, March, 2005 Planners Network Cooper Square Committee Municipal Art Society 61 East 4thStreet Planning Center New York, NY 10003 212 228-8210 COOPER SQUARE CHRONOLOGY The Cooper Square Chronology was initiated by Thelma Burdick in March, 1959, and recorded significant events up to March, 1968. For years, it was the bible of the organization, allowing us to keep the important dates straight. Unfortunately, it has never been updated till now, and it might still be waiting to happen if there hadn't been a renewed interest in the Cooper Square story. Writers and advocate planners have interviewed old timers like myself and Frances Goldin, and after hearing of an interesting incident, then ask, "And what year was that?" Too often I didn't have a clue. So I finally decided to bring the chronology up-to-date. It has been hard work, but worth every minute. I'm not the only contributor to a chronology of events. Marci Reaven, doing a PhD. dissertation on Cooper Square has also put one together for her personal use, and I have used it to fill out some uncertain items as well as a few whose significance I missed. Also, Valerio Orselli, Cooper Square's Director for over 20 years prepared a specialized chronology of 40 membership meetings held around the issue of the rehabilitation program, the Mutual Housing Association, and the revised Cooper Square Plan. It is included here, starting in November, 1984, running through April, 1993.

Managing the Boundaries of Taste: Culture, Valuation, and Computational Social Science* Ryan Light University of Oregon Colin Odden Ohio State University Ohio Colleges of Medicine This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced version of an article accepted for publication in Social Forces following peer review. The version of record is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1093/sf/sox055. *Please direct all correspondence to Ryan Light, [email protected]. The authors thank James Moody, Jill Ann Harrison, Matthew Norton, Brandon Stewart, Achim Edelmann, Clare Rosenfeld Evans, Jordan Besek, and Brian Ott for their helpful comments on earlier drafts of this paper. Managing the Boundaries of Taste: Culture, Valuation, and Computational Social Science Abstract The proliferation of cultural objects, such as music, books, film and websites, has created a new problem: How do consumers determine the value of cultural objects in an age of information glut? Crowd-sourcing – paralleling word-of-mouth recommendations – has taken center stage, yet expert opinion has also assumed renewed importance. Prior work on the valuation of artworks and other cultural artifacts identifies ways critics establish and maintain classificatory boundaries, such as genre. We extend this research by offering a theoretical approach emphasizing the dynamics of critics’ valuation and classification. Empirically, this analysis turns to Pitchfork.com, an influential music review website, to examine the relationship between classification and valuation. Using topic models of fourteen years of Pitchfork.com album reviews (n=14,495), we model the dynamics of valuation through genre and additional factors predictive of positive reviews and cultural consecration. We use gold record awards to study the relationship between valuation processes and commercial outcomes.

This lively downtown neighborhood has been a center of bohemian lifestyle since the early 1900s. Home to jazz clubs in the 1920s, to 1960s hippy havens and 1980s punk rock clubs, the East Village has always had an edginess that the West Village (a.k.a. Greenwich Village) lacks. During Dutch colonial days, much of the East Village was farmland owned by Dutch colonial Governor Peter Stuyvesant. Its18th century pastoral setting gave way to 19th century wealth followed by 20th century bohemianism and is now a 21st century playland filled to the brim with bars, lounges, cheap restaurants and haute cuisine, boutiques, vintage shops and more. The most special thing about the East Village is free: the authenticity and energy you will feel when you stroll its streets. Be sure to check out our self-guided tour of Greenwich Village (West Village) as well as our full list of self-guided NYC tours. We recommend that you start this tour in Astor Place.
