Thus, it is particularly important to develop alternative strategies to control this pest. Over a 4-year period, a survey was done in order to acquire knowledge about the complex of parasitoids associated with this pest. Leaves, flowers, and fruit infested with larvae and pupae of P. oleae were collected from olive groves, conditioned in vials, and kept under laboratory conditions until the emergence of P. ol e ae adults or parasitoids. The abundance and richness of parasitoids as well as the rate of parasitism was estimated. Hymenoptera parasitoids were found to be responsible for 43% of the mean mortality of the sampled individuals. -

Desde que en el siglo XVII el italiano Marcelo Malpighi (Crevalcore, 1628 - Roma, 1694) descubriera la relación causa-efecto entre un insecto y su agalla, numerosos naturalistas y científicos han centrado sus esfuerzos en estas estructuras vegetales, hasta hacer de la Cecidología (Ciencia que se ocupa del estudio de las agallas de las plantas) una ciencia de ámbito multidisciplinar que se asienta en estudios ecológicos, morfológicos y estructurales, etiológicos, taxonómicos, faunísticos, histológicos, fisiológicos, genéticos, etc. En este estudio se hará un repaso de que son las agallas y de los distintos estudios que pueden realizarse a partir de las agallas producidas por los Cynipidae (Hymenoptera). The Meteorini CRESSON, 1887 are small to medium size (2-10 mm) euphorine braconids, classified into two genera: the species-rich and cosmopolitan Meteorus HALIDAY, 1835 and the small Holarctic and Neotropical Zele CURTIS, 1832. Meteorus species are koinobiont endoparasitoids of the larvae of either Lepidoptera or Coleoptera, and most species of Meteorus are solitary parasitoids (rarely gregarious). Adult specimens of Meteorus were collected from various habitats and altitudes of Gökçeada and Bozcaada between 2010 and 2015. Sweeping nets were used to obtain samples on grass-type plants. 8 species had not previously been found in Gökçeada and Bozcaada. In the present study, Meteorus rubens was found to be the most commonly parasitic wasp in the study area fauna. Realized levels of parasitism in the Þeld can be signiÞcantly inßuenced by the quantity and distribution of extra-host resources. Previous studies have demon- strated a signiÞcant effect of landscape structure on parasitism of the armyworm Pseudaletia unipuncta (Haworth) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). As a possible mechanism underlying this pattern, we inves- tigated the effect of carbohydrate food sources on the longevity and fecundity of armyworm para- sitoids under laboratory conditions of varying temperature, host availability, and mating status. Glyptapanteles militaris (Walsh) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) adults lived signiÞcantly longer when provided with honey as food and when reared at 20ЊC versus 25ЊC. Meteorus communis (Cresson) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) adults also lived signiÞcantly longer when provided with honey, although longevity was reduced when females were provided hosts. Honey-fed females of M. communis parasitized signiÞcantly more hosts because of their increased longevity, but did not differ in daily oviposition from females provided only water. Mating signiÞcantly increased parasitism by honey-fed M. communis, but not those provided water alone. These results indicate that the presence of both carbohydrate resources and moderated microclimates may signiÞcantly increase the life span and parasitism of these parasitoids. -

Entomol. 34(2): 403Ð409 (2005) ABSTRACT This paper links ecological theory to the biological control of insect pests in banana plantations. Through an established predictive approach, ecological data on tritrophic interactions from natural systems were used to formulate simple recommendations for biological control in banana plantations. The speciÞc goals were (1) to determine the most effective parasitoid enemies for biological control of lepidopteran larvae in banana plantations and (2) to examine the impact of nematicides on enemy populations. To assess percent parasitism, we reared 1,121 lepidopteran larvae collected from six plantations managed under two nematicide regimens. Attack by parasitoids in the families Tachinidae (Diptera), Braconidae, Eulophidae, and Chalcididae (Hymenoptera) closely paralleled rates reported for species with similar characteristics in lowland wet forests, and statistical models predicted the relative importance of these parasitoids as sources of mortality. We found that tachinid ßies were the most important source of early instar larval parasitism in banana plantations, and their importance increased with more intensive nematicide applications. The statistical models that we derived from data on natural systems were useful in predicting which parasitoids would be important in banana and which larval characteristics they would preferentially attack. This approach could be used in other managed ecosystems where the identiÞcation of effective biological control agents is needed. The collected materials from southeastern Anatolia and from new localities of other regions were identified and a total of 11 species from 5 genera determined, of which the species Diospilus morosus Reinhard is a new record for southeastern Anatolia. All species are new records on the basis of provinces of Turkey. The distributions of the species were evaluated considering the zoogeographic regions. The fauna of these beneficial insects is studied in Isfahan province of central Iran. Totally 49 species from 27 genera and subgenera and 12 subfamilies (Alysiinae, Brachistinae, Braconinae, Cardiochilinae, Cheloninae, Euphorinae, Exothecinae, Hormiinae, Meteorinae, Microgastrinae, Opiinae, Rogadinae) were collected and identified. Four hymenopterous parasites of cereal leaf beetle have been released in most Indiana counties where sufficient C.L.B. populations exist to warrant the introduction of biological controls. A mymarid egg parasite Anaphes flavipes (Forester) has since been recovered from fifteen counties. Two ichneumonid egg parasites, Diaparsis n. sp. and Lemophagus curtus (Fomes) have been recovered from two and three counties respectively. A eulophid egg parasite Tetrastichus julis (Walk- er) had been recovered in six counties previous to 1976 but in eighteen additional counties during June 1976.
