You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... 34 June 2015 2015 Annual River Cruise Report The River Cruise Industry continues to flourish. Europe is still the prime market with Asia showing strong growth. Operators are marketing new destinations throughout Europe as overcrowding of the main rivers is at breaking point. India is also a hot spot. Fresh itineraries are now available on the Rhone in Burgundy, the Douro in Portugal and the Elbe in Germany. The 2014 Report from CLIA Australasia reveals that river cruising continues to capture the imagination of Australian travellers, with total passenger numbers swelling by 62 per cent to almost 80,000. The average river cruise is 13 days. From the Report: An impressive 79,530 Australians took a river cruise in 2014, accounting for 8 per cent of the total Australian cruise market. European river cruising was one of the strongest performing cruise sectors in 2014, with passenger numbers surging 65.6 per cent to 69,238. The growth represents a significant leap on the 25 per cent jump in passenger numbers recorded between 2012 and 2013. This acceleration can in part be ascribed to the fact that the 2014 report includes more comprehensive data from a broader range of European river cruise operators – a result of Australasia’s inclusion in the CLIA global body. Asian river cruising, which was introduced as a separate category for the first time in 2013, also recorded strong growth, with passenger numbers rising 50.6 per cent to reach almost 6,800 in 2014. Asian river cruising’s momentum shows little sign of diminishing as operators continue to introduce new ships and destinations, and Australian passengers prove receptive to river cruising experiences beyond the traditional European waterways.

New Zealand Report Europe’s waterways also fuelled a 31.2 per cent increase in the number of New Zealanders experiencing river cruising, with passenger figures reaching a record 5464.
