The Black Sorrows :: Endless Sleep Rootsy/Sonic Rendezvous The Black Sorrows :: Endless Sleep Rootsy/Sonic RendezVous Including bonus album »One More Time« Australian band the Black Sorrows is back with the brand new album »Endless Sleep«. A heartfelt 14 track album, celebrating the musical heroes that, in one way or another, helped shape the music of the Black Sorrows. We get beautiful versions of songs we usually associate with JJ Cale, Lou Reed, Warren Zevon, Blind Willie McTell, Eddie Hinton, Skip James, John Coltrane, Willie DeVille, Hank Williams and many more. But to say that the Black Sorrows »is back« is only true from a European perspective. After the success in the late eighties with the best selling albums »Hold On To Me« and »Harley & Rose«, they seemed to disappear. But back home in Australia, they been touring and recording all the time and with considerable success. The main reason they disappeared from the European radar was that singer, songwriter and band leader Joe Camilleri developed a bad case of fear of flying and prefered to stay in Australia. But thanks to KBT, or what ever it was, he's now ready and able again and this summer will see the band touring in Europe. Working on the European version of »Endless Sleep«, we decided to add bonus CD to tell the Black Sorrows story of the last 25 years. From the abundance of great stuff in the vaults we put together »One More Time« with 13 amazing tracks, including hits like »Snakeskin Shoes«, »Hold On To Me« and »Harley and Rose.« Time to rediscover the Black Sorrows! Bio Any examination of The Black Sorrows inevitably comes down to one person. Joe Camilleri (singer, songwriter, saxophonist, producer and the brains behind The Black Sorrows) is one of the most genuinely talented figures in Australian music. In 2014, with 45 albums under his belt, Joe Camilleri will celebrate 50 years in the music business and is showing no signs of slowing down. In the award winning documentary of his life in music, Joe Camilleri: Australia’s Maltese Falcon, Jane Clifton described Joe as “indefatigable”. It is his seemingly tireless drive to continually perform and record quality music that has rewarded him legendary status and well-deserved longevity in the music industry. Writer of milestone Australian songs such as So Young, Hit And Run, Shape I’m In, Hold On To Me, Harley and Rose, Chained To The Wheel , Never Let Me Go and the Chosen Ones, Camilleri has dedicated his life to making music. Leader of two of Australia’s most successful bands, Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons and The Black Sorrows, Joe’s music has become part of Australian music culture. Joe was inducted along with other members of the Falcons, into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame in 2007. Over the years other greats have admired Camilleri’s songwriting. Elvis Costello and John Denver are just two who have recorded cover versions of Joe?s music. The Black Sorrows continue to be one of Australia?s most successful touring bands and 2014 is shaping up to be a very busy year. Album number 17 from the Sorrows, Certified Blue, is a superbly produced and packaged album that Joe has chosen to release as a CD and as a limited edition, coloured 12” vinyl LP. Certified Blue contains some of the best songs Joe and his long-term writing partner Nick Smith, have ever written. The songs draw upon the diverse palette of Joe Camilleri’s musical tastes and influences – blues, jazz, country, roots, r’n’b, and Americana. Certified Blue was released on Friday 4th April 2014. After two powerful performances at the 25th Byron Bluesfest April 2014, the band headed to Norway to perform at the legendary Rockefellar Music Hall and then Nidaros Blues Festival by special invitation. Scandinavia embraced Joe and The Black Sorrows in the late eighties early nineties where the albums Hold On To Me and Harley and Rose were top 5 hits. Touring Europe is now permanently on the agenda for The Sorrows, they will return in 2015 to perform at summer festivals. Membership in The Black Sorrows has always been loose and fluid with Camilleri being the only constant. The Sorrows’ ‘elastic line-up’ and has been home to over 40 talented Australian musicians at different times and acted as a launch pad for the careers of some of Australia’s most successful musicians. In keeping with Joe’s penchant for continually moving forward, the newest version of The Black Sorrows is a formidable one – Claude Carranza (guitar/vocals), Mark Gray (bass/vocals), John McCall (keyboards/vocals) and Angus Burchall (drums). In the mid 80s following the success of Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons, Joe Camilleri gathered together a group of musician friends and dubbed them The Black Sorrows. The band began playing for the fun of it, recording independent albums and selling them at venues. When radio picked up the classic track, Mystified, The Black Sorrows really took flight. The band signed a worldwide deal with CBC/Sony and proceeded to release some of Australia’s most successful albums including the multi-platinum sellers Hold On To Me, Harley and Rose and The Chosen Ones. Since 1984, The Black Sorrows have toured Australia more times than anyone can remember, played sell out shows across Europe, won the ARIA for Best Band‚ and sold more than two million albums worldwide. Joe Camilleri has shown fans and critics alike that he is a performer with an undeniable energy and love of it all. .

  • Adventures of the Amazing Revelators
The Adventures of the Amazing Revelators "I don't see this as a greatest hits recording, more an opportunity to pay homage to some of the great writers of our time. The Revelators were formed out of a desire to keep this music alive. Some of these songs have been with us for some time - others we were drawn to because of their charm.... and every word is true." Joe Camilleri These were the words that graced The Revelators' 1991 debut CD release. 'Debut' is an odd word to use for a group of musicians who have been an integral part of the Australian music scene for so long. The Revelators The Revelators story started in the late 80's when Joe Camilleri, along with friends James Black and Joe Creighton, took to the stage as 'The Delta Revelators' . Their desire was to blow out the serious days' work with people who shared the same interest in music and who simply wanted to play it. On stage with Pete Luscombe on drums (Black Sorrows, Paul Kelly, Rebecca's Empire) and Jeff Burstin on guitar (Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda) the word spread that this was a great band. Soon the occasional gig was not enough to keep the punters happy. Regular sessions at ID's (now The Continental) and The Botanical Hotel had the fans asking 'When are you going to do a CD?' 'Amazing Stories' 'Amazing Stories' was released in 1991 and everyone in the band agreed it was the best album they had ever made. The fans felt the same and the CD is still eagerly sought after by roots music aficionados.

  • Amazing Release Q
In the wake of the Revelators' critically acclaimed second album The Adventures of the Amazing Revelators, Head Records and Shock are very happy to present the long awaited rerelease of the band's out of print debut album Amazing Stories. The Revelators story started in the late 80's when Joe Camilleri, along with friends James Black and Joe Creighton, took to the stage as 'The Delta Revelators'. Initially a side project for the players, the word on The Revelators gigs soon spread, and the question of a recording was raised. Inspired by Joe's encyclopaedic knowledge of good music, songs from artists like the Burrito Bros., Jr Walker and Dylan were respectfully resur- rected and reinterpreted. The result was Amazing Stories . The album was recorded and released in 1991 at the height of the Black Sorrows’ Triple Platinum successes (Hold On To Me and Harley & Rose) and still everyone in The Revelators agreed it was the best album they had ever made. The fans felt the same and the album has become a must have title for any roots music aficionado’s collection. Amazing Stories 2001 has been fully remastered and includes two previ- ously unreleased bonus tracks recorded during the original 1991 sessions - Jimmy Reed's 'Honest I Do', and the country classic 'Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down'. To celebrate the rerelease of Amazing Stories The Revelators will be on tour for the first two weeks of August. Stay tuned for full touring details. The Revelators’ Amazing Stories is available now on Head Records thru Shock. THE BLACK SORROWS Biography 2002 Joe Camilleri is an Australian legend who has given his life to music. In the mid 80s following the success of his first band, Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons, Joe Camilleri gathered together a group of musician friends and dubbed them The Black Sorrows. The band began playing for the fun of it, recording independent albums and selling them out of the boot of his car. When radio picked up the classic track, 'Mystified',The Black Sorrows really took flight. They signed to CBS and proceeded to release some of Australia's most successful albums including the multi-platinum sellers Hold On To Me, Harley & Rose and The Chosen Ones. Over the past fifteen years, The Black Sorrows have toured Australia more times than anyone can remember, played sell out shows across Europe, won the ARIA for 'Best Band' and sold more than a million albums world-wide. Joe Camilleri's songs have become part of our lives. The Sorrows' string of hits is seemingly endless: Dear Children, Country Girls, Snake Skin Shoes, Harley & Rose, The Chosen Ones, Mystified, Ain't Love The Strangest Thing, Better Times, Never Let Me Go, Chained To The Wheel, Daughters of Glory, Stir It Up, New Craze... and he's certainly not done yet. Look around the world and you have to put Joe in the same company as people like Eric Clapton and Van Morrison - legends, performers whose careers span decades, transcending all styles and fads, performers who are loved for the fact that they're obviously in it for the music.

  • Bio the Revelators
The Revelators LAUNCH THEIR 3rd LP THE REVELATORS So you’ve played the stadiums, you’ve topped the charts, you’ve toured the world and racked up gold, platinum and sundry other mantelpiece trifles. You’ve written songs, recorded albums, managed bands, produced bands, played sessions and watched your stock rise, fall and rise again on the whims of fashion. Four decades later, what really matters? For The Revelators, THE it’s the music itself and the people you play it with. It’s how much you love it and how well you do it. And it’s something REVELATORS else you’ll never quite put your finger on. James Black: ‘It’s probably a soul thing primarily. We like roots music, that style of playing, that mixture of blues and soul and country with good songs thrown in. We’ve also made a lot of records so we’re always trying to get a good feeling, a good sound. And we can play.’ Joe Creighton: ‘It’s an opportunity to plug directly into that source material, whether it’s John Lee Hooker or Muddy Waters or Doug Sahm. We approach roots music in the way jazz musicians play: we open it up and jam on it, we don’t play a song the same way every night.’ Joe Camilleri: ‘For me, it’s as simple as loving the people and loving what they do. Joe Creighton’s one of the best bass players in Australia and James is a world class musician too. He’s always looking for something inside a song.
