Katyń 80th anniversary a reminder of the crimes of Soviet Russia committed against Poles in 1937-1941 Created by: Andrzej Burghardt Zbigniew Koralewski Krzysztof Wąż © COPYRIGHT 2021 Coalition of Polish Americans Knowledge of the history of Poland, our country of origin, including the tragedies of which Katyn is a symbol, is an extremely important element of the sense of national community. For a numer of reasons, the history of Poland, especially the period of World War II, is distorted and deformed, also in the United States, so we must strive to learn the truth about these events. This presentation will acquaint you closer with: Polish Operation; secret protocol between Germany and Russia; Hitler's orders; methods of extermination of the Polish nation; the Katyn massacre; deportations of Poles to Siberia; hiding and falsifying the truth about the Katyn genocide and deportations to Siberia. Polish Operation by NKVD in 1937 „Polish Operation” was carried out by the NKVD (communist secret police) two years before the Second World War. It consisted in arresting of people of Polish origin who lived within the domain of Soviet Russia. According to the documents, almost 240,000 people were imprisoned at that time, of which almost half were murdered, the rest were sentenced to stay in labor camps or deported to Kazakhstan and Siberia. Victims of the NKVD „Polish Operation” The action covered all suspected of Polish origin. Poles were killed or deported for only one reason: because they were Poles. This served as a model for organizing later mass arrests, forced resettlements and murders such as in Katyn. -

Walker, ASC — stars Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford and was promoted as a re-teaming of the stars of the prior hit Gilda (1946). Considered a “comeback” effort following Hayworth’s difficult marriage to Prince Aly Khan, Trinidad was the star's first picture in four years and Columbia Pictures wanted one of their finest cinematographers to shoot it. Here, Walker (on right, wearing fedora) and his crew set a shot on Hayworth over Ford’s shoulder. Dick Tracy – W. Beatty (1990).jpg Directed by and starring Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy (1990) was a faithful ode to the timeless detective comic strip. To that end, Beatty and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, ASC, AIC — seen here setting a shot during production — rendered the film almost entirely in reds, yellows and blues to replicate the look of the comic. Storaro earned an Oscar nomination for his efforts. The two filmmakers had previously collaborated on the period drama Reds and later on the political comedy Bullworth. Cries and Whispers - L. H&G6-10-Tu1 The Birth of American Imperialism Leader - Ron Levy Tuesday – Course Period 1 – 9:00 a.m. to 10:25 a.m. Description Five U.S. Presidents in a 20-year period, from Harrison to Taft, embarked on active territorial incursions and international strategies that had significant implications for our foreign policy in the 20th century. James Bradley in his book, The Imperial Cruise levels serious accusations of a racist leadership that pursued an American Aryan philosophy as it “followed the sun to the West.” Although a lauded historian, he wrote this book in more of a journalistic style which makes for enjoyable and often surprising reading. Reviews have been both favorable and critical of his controversial treatment of the subject. How legitimate are Bradley’s claims? What is the background to our territorial incursions in Asia-Pacific, and to what extent were they an extension of our similar activities in the Americas? How did they relate to the concurrent activities of other major powers? To what extent were our actions examples of regime change or of nation building? What were some of the positive and negative outcomes of our policies? Did some of our actions really lead to World War II in the Pacific? We will examine the then-recent history of Hawai’i, Cuba, Panama, the Philippines, China, Korea and Japan, and the U.S.’s relations with those countries, as the U.S.
