Cork. OVERALL DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH Timoleague is an attractive village, with its colourful houses stepping up the hillside and marvellous ruined abbey. The adjudicator noticed many improvements since last visiting the village. Your three to five year work programme, formulated as it was in February 1999 is now half way through and you seem to have successfully achieved many of the objectives you set yourselves. Maybe for next year’s competition you could set a timescale against these projects. THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT Many of the buildings of the village appeared extremely bright, fresh and colourful. The charming centrally located Catholic Church looked most attractive, especially the side entrance area off Chapel Hill. The railings to the main entrance on Main Street will perhaps need to be painted up before next year’s competition. The Church of Ireland and grounds looked extremely well maintained. The National School looked extremely fresh but some weeding was necessary to its playground area. The public toilets adjacent to the Abbey looked fine as did the Community Centre. Pad Joe’s looked most attractive in pink with blue trims and its abundant window boxes.

Thanks to a fantastic group of coaches Laura progressed quickly and qualified for the Ireland Games in Limerick in June of 2014. The Games were a wonderful experience both for the athletes and also the families. It was amazing to see the camaraderie between the athletes and to watch new friendships being forged. It truly embodied the Special Olympic Motto of “Let me win but if I cannot win-let me be brave in the attempt”. This motto is read out before every Special Olympics competition. I was educated at Lislevane National School until I was about 12 years of age when I then attended Evening Classes under the Board of Education for four nights each week from 7.15 p.m. to 9.15 p.m. until about the year 1918. In November, 1915, a public meeting to organise a unit of Irish Volunteers was held in Lislevane. It was attended by Terence McSwiney, Cork, who was in Volunteer uniform. This meeting was also attended by Volunteer units from Ballinadee and the surrounding area as well as by units from Lyre and district. Jeremiah O'Brien, Curraheen, was Chairman of the meeting, which was addressed by Terence McSwiney and James Cahalane, Clonakilty. The meeting was attended by members of the R.I.C. from Courtmacsherry and Timoleague, who watched a parade of 32 local men who joined up and paraded after the meeting under Terence McSwiney.
