DETAILED ITINERARY
BATANG AI The area of Batang Ai is located 290 km south-east of Kuching into the interior of Sarawak. In the old days, during the tribal wars, fierce battles and aggressive headhunting raids were going on in the area of Batang Ai. Nowadays the area of Batang Ai is not only home to about 30 Iban longhouses, but also to the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort (managed by Hilton). Located at the shore of the scenic Batang Ai Lake and surrounded with lush rainforest, this resort was built resembling a longhouse, but with all the comforts of a holiday resort. Further up the Batang Ai river lies Batang Ai National Park which provides a natural habitat for some of Borneo's most endangered and magnificent wildlife. Together with Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary and Indonesian conservation areas, Batang Ai National Park forms the largest trans-boundary protected area of the wet tropics.
KUCHING – BATANG AI (-/L/-) Day 1 Pick-up from Kuching city hotel for a 290 km journey with en-route stops at the local market in the town of Serian, a stop to observe wild orchids and pitcher plants at the roadside and also a visit of a pepper farm. Lunch will be provided in Lachau, a small upcountry Chinese village. After lunch you will proceed to arrive at the beautiful Batang Ai Lake. Here, you will board a ferry/boat for 30 minutes ride across the lake to reach the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort (managed by Hilton). After check-in, the rest of the day is free at leisure to use the many facilities of the resort.

BATANG AI – IBAN LONGHOUSE TOUR (B/L/-)
Day 2 After breakfast, you will board native longboats for about 30 to 40 minutes‟ ride across the lake to reach a native longhouse. The Ibans will sound their gongs and perform their traditional war dance in full ceremonial regalia. Enjoy a traditional and cultural exchange with the Ibans and their families. You will be awed by the communal lifestyle they share in the longhouse. A native lunch will be served in the longhouse. Return to the Batang Ai Longhouse Resort. In the afternoon you have the option to venture on a nature walk including a canopy bridge (subject to weather conditions). The rest of the day is free at leisure.

BATANG AI – BATANG AI NATIONAL PARK TOUR (B/L/-) Day 3 After breakfast, depart by longboat for an approximately 2 hours ride along the lake and up the Batang Ai river to reach Batang Ai National Park. Upon arrival at the national park you will proceed on a jungle trek with packed lunch included. Return to the resort. The rest of the day is free at leisure.

BATANG AI – KUCHING (B/L/-) Day 4 After breakfast at the resort, take the ferry across the lake and transfer back to Kuching with an en-route stop for lunch.

NOTE:
This tour can be combined with a visit of Semenggok Orang Utan Centre at an additional surcharge. Even if the package is booked on private basis, certain services may be on shared basis in order to minimise impacts on the natural environment or if other circumstances require so. These services include boat transfers in Batang Ai, as well as boat transfers & activities in the longhouse. Due to tough trekking under tropical climate conditions, this tour is very strenuous and one is expected to have high fitness level and good stamina. Please travel light for the overnights at Batang Ai Longhouse Resort. Suitcases can be stored at your hotel in Kuching. It is customary to bring some gifts for the Iban longhouse people, which can be divided by the number of families. Our guide can assist you during one of the stops en-route to buy some suitable presents. This custom is only applicable to Iban longhouse tours.
