The virtual events were well received and gave those attending the opportunity to catch up in an informal atmosphere. C92 Public Question Time The following question had been received pursuant to Paragraph 11.1 of the Council Procedure Rules:- Mr Roger Oldfield ‘A research study by scientists at four British and American universities was reported this month as finding that globally 8.7 million people died in 2018 from pollution caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

The George and Dragon has re-opened at Meaford, The Dog and Partridge at Marching- ton and the Hollybush at Seighford. There is a new landlord settling in at The Spittle Brook and the people of Hilderstone are trying to save their pub, The Roebuck, with a community buy out. Please try to visit these pubs and give them your support. As we go to press plans are beginning to be laid for our 6th Stafford Beer Festival. Af- ter the success of the 5th Beer Festival we are hoping to make the next one bigger and better than ever. Watch this space for further details which will hopefully be ready for the next issue of Beer at Heart due out on 1st of April! If you are a CAMRA Member and reading this before the end of January then now is the time to vote for our 2014 Good Beer Guide Entries.     Appendix 2: Historic Environment Character Area Overviews for Stafford This appendix provides an overview of the historic environment for each of the Historic Environment Character Areas (HECAs) within Stafford Borough. It should be noted that the information and any recommendations contained within this appendix is subject to amendment should any new information become available. For further information regarding the Historic Environment Record (HER); Historic Landscape Characterisation (HLC) and designated sites please contact: Cultural Environment Team Environment & Countryside Development Services Directorate Staffordshire County Council Riverway Stafford ST16 3TJ Tel: 01785 277281/277285/277290 Email: [email protected] Staffordshire County Council June 2009 1 Historic Environment Character Area (HECA) 5b Introduction This document forms an overview of the HECA which specifically addresses the potential of medium to large scale development to impact upon the historic environment. The character area is dominated by 20th century housing development and field systems. Evidence of earlier farming practices and settlement do survive across the character area in the form of ridge and furrow earthworks, late medieval/post medieval field systems, moated sites and historic farmsteads. Earlier activity has been recorded in the character area in the form of the hillfort at Berry Ring and evidence for prehistoric to Roman settlement at Acton Trussell. Such sites suggest the potential for further unknown archaeological deposits to survive across the HECA. The character area covers 3,056ha and is split between Stafford Borough Council, to the north, and South Staffordshire Council to the south. Archaeological and historic documentation A number of archaeological assessments were carried out in the early 1990s for proposed large scale development.

    Electoral Review of Stafford Borough Council Area Stafford Borough Council Independent Group Submission on Proposed New Ward Boundaries I am writing to you as leader of the Independent Group on Stafford Borough Council concerning possible ward boundary changes to the Stafford Borough Council area to accommodate the proposed reduction in Councillor numbers. On 19th December, the Council’s preferred changes to the boundaries were discussed and approved, and as such will be submitted to you as representing the views of the Council. I must point out that, as you will see from the minutes of that meeting, this is not the case and indeed the option put forward by the Council represents only the views of the Conservative Controlling Group. A name vote at the meeting showed that all the other non-Conservative Councillors voted against this proposal regardless of political group or affiliation. Indeed in any of the cross-political working groups which were established to agree this proposal any suggestions put forward by any non-Conservative councilors were rejected with little or no discussion. With this in mind the Independent Group have reservations with the proposal which we believe has been arrived at for political gain rather than ensuring community interests are the driving factor. With this in mind we would like to draw your attention particular to one anomaly – namely the Council’s suggested new Church Eaton and Seighford Ward which in its current form has been drawn up purely to ensure the ward is, according to the Conservative Group, “served by two Councillors so the workload can be shared” and not to recognize the communities involved.
