The Bruin track & field program will travel to the Big Apple for the third straight season to compete in the Dr. Sander 22-23 MPSF Indoor Championships (Seattle, Wash.) Invitational/Columbia Challenge, hosted by Columbia University. The meet will take place at the New York City Armory and will stream live (subscription required) on USAtf.tv. March 8-9 NCAA Indoor Championships LAST MEET (Birmingham, Ala.) The Bruins posted several strong marks and collected four event victories at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Invitational 15-16 Willie Williams Classic on Jan. 18-19 in Albuquerque, N.M. It was another solid meet for sophomore Alyssa Wilson, who won the weight (Tucson, Ariz.) 22 at Aztec Invitational throw (21.12m) and shot put (17.57m). Her effort in the weight throw was good for third all-time in UCLA indoor (San Diego, Calif.) history. The success for UCLA throwers didn’t stop there, as senior Justin Stafford recorded a career-best 20.61m 29 Bob Larsen Distance Carnival in the weight throw to earn second place and notch the fifth-best indoor mark in program history. On day two, (Drake Stadium) redshirt senior Elleyse Garrett cleared 4.15m (13-07.25) in the pole vault to secure a lifetime-best indoor mark and 30 Jim Bush Legends Invitational first-place finish, and senior CJ Alumbres took home first place in the triple jump, bounding 14.93m (48-11.75) to (Drake Stadium) secure the win. UCLA newcomers made their presence known in the Bruins’ last time out, as well. The UCLA men currently sit No. 6 in the West and No. 55 overall. (Tucson, Ariz.) 11-12 at Pac-12 Championships ANDERSON BEGINS SECOND SEASON (Tucson, Ariz.) UCLA graduate and /football alumnus Avery Anderson is in his second year as the Director of Track 23-25 at NCAA West Regionals & Field and Cross Country, having assumed the position on July 6, 2017. In his first year at the helm, Anderson (Sacramento, Calif.) helped UCLA muster USTFCCCA All-America performances in several events during the outdoor season, including June first team selections in Robert Brandt (10,000m), Kendall Gustafson (heptathlon), Jessie Maduka (triple jump) and 6-8 at NCAA Championships Alyssa Wilson (shot put, hammer). The UCLA track & field program also saw two student-athletes (Simon Litzell, (Austin, Texas) javelin; Marian Spannowsky, javelin) earn second team honors, while Justin Stafford (hammer) and Alyssa Wilson (discus) took home honorable mention plaudits in their respective events. Sprinters – Women Pole Vaulters – Men Headlining a young group of sprinters on the women’s side are three seniors in Suzie The Bruins’ lone returner is Michael Fancey, who cleared a season-best 4.75m (15-7) at the Acolatse, Meleni Rodney and Schuyler Moore. In 2018, Acolatse helped the 4x100m relay Don Kirby Elite Invitational. UCLA notched two strong newcomers in Kyle Brown, a transfer team earn a 17th-place finish at the NCAA West Regionals, while Rodney posted season- out of Yale, and freshman phenom Sondre Guttormsen. Brown posted a season-best effort best times in the 400m (53.80; fourth place) and 200m (23.92; eighth place) at the of 4.65m (15-3) as a freshman at the Yale Season Opener, while Guttormsen, a graduate of MPSF Championships. Moore took 21st in the 200m (24.82) and 24th in the 60m (7.66; Davis Senior High School, won the state championship in the pole vault when he cleared 17 season-best time) at the MPSFs.
