SCHOOL The oldest independent coeducational school in Houston, The Kinkaid School was founded in 1906. It is a nonsectarian college preparatory day school, enrolling a total of 1,406 boys and girls in grades pre-kinder- garten through twelve. Kinkaid holds membership in the Independent Schools Association of the South- west, the College Board, the Network of Complementary Schools, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Cum Laude Society, the American Field Service, and the National and Associations for College Admissions Counseling.

FACULTY The faculty consists of 192 men and women who have been educated throughout the and in several foreign countries. Kinkaid makes extensive commitments to continuing faculty education; last year more than $148,000 was distributed to the faculty in study grants for continuing formal education, research projects, or educational travel.

UPPER SCHOOL 576 students in grades 9 through 12.

CURRICULUM College Preparatory: 100 percent of graduates are admitted to 4-year colleges and universities.

ADVANCED Students are admitted to Advanced Placement courses by department recommendation and approval. All PLACEMENT students enrolled in an AP course are required to take the AP exam. All AP courses have been reviewed and PROGRAM approved by the College Board Audit. In May 2012: • 232 students (primarily grades 11 and 12) wrote at least one AP exam. • 511 grades were reported in 20 subjects. • 95 percent of the grades were 3 or above. • 72 percent of the grades were 4 or 5.

HONOR CODE An Honor Code governs the academic and social conduct of Kinkaid students.

INTERIM TERM For three weeks in January, Interim Term provides Upper School students a selection of elective courses, foreign study opportunities, community service, cultural programs, and, for seniors, professional career internships.
