November 11 – 12, 2006 Champions Sports Complex Orlando, Florida Players Age 12 – 14 & 15 – 18 BARRY LARKIN ACCELERATED MIDDLE INFIELD CAMP November 11 – 12, 2006 Champions Sports Complex Orlando, Florida Players Age 12 – 14 & 15 – 18 Baseball Factory and the Champions Sports Complex have combined forces to bring you the Barry Larkin Accelerated Middle Infield Camp Barry Larkin, 12-time All-Star and former National League MVP, will instruct players on advanced middle infield techniques Barry Larkin Accelerated Middle Infield Camp Benefits: ♦ First Class Instruction: Who better to learn middle infield techniques from than Barry Larkin, a 12-time All-Star and former National League MVP. Barry will work with every player to develop their fielding skills. ♦ Top-Notch Facility: Train at the Champions Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. This complex has 92,000 square feet of space, giving us room to spread out stations and work players through multiple drills. ♦ Intense Training: Players will rotate through stations focused on different aspects of playing middle infield. We will work your forehands, backhands, double play feeds/turns, and slow rollers. Players will get numerous repetitions during six hours of training. ♦ Age Specific Training: Players will be broken down by age to increase skill development. 12 – 14 year olds will attend from 9 AM – Noon and 15 – 18 year olds will attend from 1 – 4 PM. Parents – We will also offer the Barry Larkin Parent & Coach Fantasy Camp, Nov. 11. Ask us how you can workout on the field with Barry and learn the ins-and-outs of playing middle infield. The 92,000 square foot indoor facility will provide a spacious setting for position-specific training. Barry was also selected as a 12-time All-Star and was named the National League Most Valuable Player in 1995. Luis Castillo has every chance to have a breakout 2018 campaign. His 3-7 record in '17 is deceptive, as his other numbers show he was solid. He posted a 3.12 ERA in 15 starts (eight quality starts), with a 1.075 WHIP over 89 1/3 innings. This all came after being promoted to the big leagues from Double-A, skipping a Triple-A stint. Beyond the numbers, Castillo is 24 years old and already seems to have command of four pitches. The right-hander can regularly top 98-100 mph and then beat hitters with the secondary stuff -- namely a changeup or slider. He also has a great tempo that the defense enjoys working behind. Can you speculate as to the future of Devin Mesoraco in Cincinnati? I assume Stuart Turner will be in Triple-A next year since the Reds were able to keep him on the Major League roster all of 2017? -- Tom G., Alexandria, Ky. Mesoraco will be entering the final season of his four-year, $28 million contract. Over the first three years of that deal, hip, shoulder and foot injuries decimated his ability to play and produce, and he has played just 95 games with 57 starts.

    Honoring Chicago’s Contributions to America’s favorite pastime Santo Legacy Has Its Day in Cooperstown By Paul Ladewski Posted on Sunday, July 22 COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. – Vicki Santo admitted to more than a few tears while she wrote the Hall of Fame induction speech for her late husband Ron, the popular Cubs third baseman and broadcaster. The words came in fits and spurts, sometimes weeks apart. Other than a local baseball writer who shared some on-field stories, she asked for no assistance. After all, no one knew more about her husband's battle against diabetes, one that she had fought with him for years. “It was an emotional time for me,” Vicki admitted to the Chicago Baseball Museum. “I wrote for a few days, but after a while, I found it difficult to stay focused. So I put the speech away and cleared my mind. Then I took it out again and wrote some more.” Vicki Santo addresses the crowd at the Hall of Fame Months later, the result was a poignant address at the Clark induction. Sports Center on a warm, sun-splashed Sunday afternoon. It was a message as unique as the physical challenge that her husband had faced on and off the field throughout his career. In a speech that was remarkably void of baseball talk, Vicki chose to dwell not on his 342 home runs, five consecutive Gold Glove Awards and nine All-Star Game appear- ances but his real legacy on a much larger field. “Ron's baseball career shouldn't be overshadowed by what he did for juvenile diabetes,” Vicki went on to say.
