Hotel Fact Sheet HOTEL FACT Valid for Season 2014 SHEET Official name of the hotel : Domes of Elounda Boutique Beach Resort Official category : 5 star Description : Consisting solely of unique design suites and villas, Domes of Elounda Boutique Beach Resort, offers guests the true Mediterranean experience, connecting luxury to natural environment and local culture. The resort introduces a new concept, holistically capturing the essence of all that is Mediterranean and bringing it to life in the form of a luxury resort. This is a new luxury one isn’t afraid to touch, one you can live in, and one with extraordinary character that allows you to remain in sync with the landscape of Greece while enjoying world class accommodation. The attraction to the sea and vibrant culture of Crete has naturally created a feel that blends the magic of the Mediterranean with an alternatively traditional, yet human luxury. Minimally interfering with the natural habitat and harmonically blended with their surroundings, the domed structures emerge from the ground, respecting its natural contours and creating a settlement on a hillside of flower gardens, stone pathways, and olive groves. Each suite and villa finds its roots in architecture from Greece, Carpath and Syria, borrowing features such as domed and pyramidal ceilings that cool rooms capturing sea breezes, and create a new architecture of organically shaped living spaces at a human scale. Mild earth tones are found throughout, embellished with works of art from internationally recognized art houses as well as one of a kind pieces from local artists. Breathtaking views of the sea and the Venetian castle on the island of Spinalonga are part of this new design inviting the senses to feast on sights, scents and tastes from the rich outdoors through large windows, and spacious verandas. Domes of Elounda Invites you to immerse yourself in the pageantry of one of the world’s most vibrant cultures, that of Crete. Haggis) The Early Iron Age (c. 1200-700 B.C.) on Crete is a period of transition, comprising the years after the final collapse of the palatial system in Late Minoan IIIB up to the development of the polis, or city-state, by or during the Archaic period. Over the course of this period, significant changes occurred in settlement patterns, settlement forms, ritual contexts, and most strikingly, in burial practices. Early Iron Age burial practices varied extensively throughout the island, not only from region to region, but also often at a single site; for example, at least 12 distinct tomb types existed on Crete during this time, and both inhumation and cremation were used, as well as single and multiple burial.
