OUR LORD GIVES US SOME GLIMPSES OF THE DAZZLING MYSTERY OF HIS LOVE WORKING IN OUR LIVES. WE CAN “SEE GOD TODAY!” WE PRAY TO BE AWAKE AND APPRECIATE WHEN HE GRANTS US THESE “TRANSFIGURATIONS.” THEY NOURISH OUR SENSE OF WONDER AND INSPIRE US AS WE “KEEPONKEEPINON” THROUGH THE JOURNEY OF OUR LIVES ON THE WAY TO HEAVEN.

“From my youth, my grandparents & parents cultivated in me a great appreciation for the dignity and richness of the border communities of Texas.

This appreciation lives in the deepest part of me.”—Bishop Daniel E. Flores This is the Second Sunday of our trip through Lent. We ponder the mystery of the transfiguration in the light of our own experiences and stories. If we’re perceptive, we do get some glimpses of the wonder of God’s love illuminating our pilgrimage through “the mud, the blood, and the beer.” (Johnny Cash) “Here in the real world” () it doesn’t always work out like we wish it would, but every now and then He gives us some sense of that love that never dies if we’re watching! We “don’t know we’re beautiful,” () but he does show us now and then.

Jesus’ transfiguration and the experience of Peter, James & John was unique, but we can be transfigured and see transfigurations in the light of the Father’s love. The intensity of our “religious experience” is not as important as how we respond to God-whether we let Him transfigure us or show himself to us. While it may “feel” easier to ignore the invitations or calls of the Spirit, it will really backfire because we were made to respond! God doesn’t give up easy! Lord help us catch those “glimpses” you give us of “how good it is for us to be here!”

We hope that what we do or “give up” during Lent “sensitizes” or enhances our perception of the glimpses of His love that we get here on Earth. We wouldn’t want to be so wrapped up in ourselves that we’d miss such a “wonder-full” sense of “how good it is to be here!” Like the apostles would, we do too, sometimes get that “knock your socks off glimpse” in HINDSIGHT. At the time we were too busy, fatigued, frustrated, fired up (angry), foolish to notice that amazing presence of the love of God incarnated in our own story, but like those apostles, as we “Remember When” (Alan Jackson), we pick up on it and we sure are impressed! It does help to realize that the thing we will remember with a profound sense of wonder and gratitude might be happening right here and now, before our eyes even as we speak! We might be making amazing memories right now, without even know it! We might be “seeing God today!” ¡Que cosas!

SPEAKING OF MAKING SACRIFICES…WE KICKED OFF OUR 2ND ANNUAL APPEAL FOR BISHOP DANIEL LAST WEEKEND! With our fine new, young bishop, we hope we can really “knock their socks off!” All GOOD STUFF! You probably know that among the many things we’re known for here at the old Guadalupe, one of them is our GENEROSITY. It’s pretty heartwarming! Let’s hope and pray and sacrifice for a real good success on BISHOP DANIEL’S SECOND ANNUAL APPEAL! Bishop Daniel Flores, Fr. Roy, Fr. Jim, & Fr. Phil thank you for your love for the family of the Church and generosity to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Your gift will go a long way towards building up God’s Kingdom throughout the Diocese in a hearty, healthy way! The best is yet to come! We don’t have the words to tell you how much we appreciate you’re great-hearted generosity!

Bishop Daniel will speak at the game’s half time. Get your tickets here! Half of the money goes to the Parish and half to the Bishop’s Appeal. Get your tickets TODAY!

THE PALM SUNDAY (APRIL 1ST) RAFFLE HAS ALSO KICKED OFF! WE HOPE EVERY FAMILY CAN SELL OR BUY AT LEAST ONE OR TWO BOOKS. The raffle money goes to cover our Catholic School expenses. We sure need & appreciate your help!

The BIG PALM SUNDAY MARCH to la Lomita is FOUR weeks away! Maybe we’ll be slimmer by then and the march will be less of a strain!? (You reckon?) We’ll have a good parish picnic there, say farewell to our Winter Texans and Migrants and hear confessions till sunset. It’ll be a beautiful day in the neighborhood! We’ll also have the now traditional Palm Sunday Raffle then to help us with our school bills. The tickets ought to be ready by now. IF YOU WIN ONE OF THOSE ELECTRIC BIKES, YOU’LL REALLY HAVE SOME FUN! We hope every household can sell one or two books. It’s a smaller type raffle than the big Guadalupe Raffle, but it’s fun and helps out with the school bills! LENT---A GOOD TIME

Bendito (New Year’s 2012) AWARENESS OF AND RESPONSE TO GOD’S GOODNESS IN YOU & AROUND YOU!

According to our noble Catholic tradition, we fast and abstain during Lent in general, we observe the tradition of abstaining from red meat at least on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent, and for sure those from 21-60 years of age fast (eat a lot less!) on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The obligation to abstain from meat applies to everyone 14 years old and up. It’s a fine old tradition. With God’s help, you need to figure out how you can apply and keep it best for yourself and your household. Work something out for your own good and the healthier you are, the better it will be for the rest of us.

We’re praying and meditating together on the “Way of the Cross” on Fridays at 6:00 p.m.. It’s a great old traditional prayer. If you prefer to meditate and pray the Way of the Cross alone you can get a book from us to help you with that. We have them in English and Spanish, and for adults, jovenes, and kids!

So, you could go have a fine dining experience at La Parilla and be making a donation to our sweet, old Parish at the same time! How ‘bout that?

George Strait sings a real sweet song about those “Transfigurations” that we see and might miss if we were too distracted, disgusted, disappointed, fatigued or angry. We pray and “adjust” during Let to be tuned in to, amazed by, and grateful for those times we can say, “I Saw God Today!” “I Saw God Today”— Just walked down the street to the coffee at 5:08, and she had that glow, I just look down and stop and stare, shop, I saw God today, Yea, I couldn't help, open my eye and then , Had to take a break, but I noticed that she was starting to show, I Saw God Today, I've been by her side for eighteen hours I've been to church, stood there for a minute, straight, I've read the book, taking in the sky, Got my face pushed up against the nursery saw a flower growing in the middle of the I know He's there, lost in that sunset, glass, sidewalk, But I don't look, a splashing down from mounting in shades she's sleeping like a rock, pushing up through the concrete, near as often as I should, of red, my name on her wrist, wearing tiny pink socks, Like it was planted right there for me to His fingerprints are everywhere, I've been to church, see, I've read the book, she's got my nose, I just look down and stop and stare, she's got her Mama's eyes, The flashing lights, open my eyes and then I swear, I know He's there, The honking horns, but I don't look, my brand new baby girl, I Saw God Today, she's a miracle, All seem to fade away, Saw a couple walking by, near as often as I should, but in the shadow of the hospital, I Saw God Today they were holding hands, His fingerprints are everywhere,
