GATE Endorsement Information

General Information The Gifted and Talented endorsement is not required in the state of . A person must hold a content specific endorsement for the services being rendered. However, if you are facilitating and or overseeing the Gifted and Talented program for the district, it is best practices for the person to hold the endorsement. Also, some districts may request that if you are providing supplemental services to Gifted and Talented students or facilitating the Gifted and Talented program that you acquire the endorsement. Endorsement Information If a person is seeking the Gifted and Talented endorsement, please refer to the Idaho Administrative Procedures Act rules outlining the Gifted and Talented Endorsement requirements. A candidate can use any program as long as the program has Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation accreditation. of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University both offer the 20 credits for the Gifted and Talented endorsement. Northwest Nazarene courses are offered online. Boise State University program is for teachers interested in enrolling in a Master’s program and can earn the Gifted and Talented endorsement as part of their Masters. Boise State offers their courses online. For a person already certified in Idaho, a district can apply for an Alternative Authorization – Teacher to New Endorsement and request Option 4. A candidate approved for Option 4 does not do any coursework. Option 4 allows adding an endorsement via passage of the applicable Praxis 2 and demonstration of proficient teaching during the school year.
