R Ravi Kumar | B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology - Batch of 2022 Verified Reviewed on 7 Aug 2021 3.4 Placements 3 Infrastructure 3 Faculty & Course Curriculum 4 Crowd & Campus Life 3 It is a good college but not best. Placements: I am a student of the sociology department, Patna College, Patna University. There are around 75 students in the class, and the placement facility provided is not good. Only a few companies offer salary packages in our course. Disclaimer: This PDF is auto-generated based on the information available on Shiksha as on 23-Sep-2021. Infrastructure: Facilities provided are not so good, and the infrastructure is not well maintained, the Wi-Fi speed is slow, and there are fewer books in the library. Hostels are fine, and the canteen is very small. The medical facilities provided are good enough, and the sports section is also good, but have some problems. Faculty: Teachers are helpful, well qualified, and extremely knowledgeable. Teaching quality is good but there are only a few teachers. Examinations are tough, and around 80% of students pass get pass. Students have to study hard. Other: I opted for this course because sociology is an interesting subject. You can know more about society. Research should be added to the course. A Abhinandan Kumar | B.A. (Hons.) in English - Batch of 2022 Verified Reviewed on 22 Jun 2021 3.2 Placements 3 Infrastructure 3 Faculty & Course Curriculum 2 Crowd & Campus Life 3 The campus environment is very good, but a bit dissatisfied with faculty members. Placements: Approximately 40% of students got placed from this course, B.A. English (Hons). The highest package offered in this course was 20 lacs per annum to our seniors in 2016. The average package offered in this course is 4-5 lacs per annum. 10-15% of students got internships from this course. The top roles are offered in the filed of media, content writer, mass communication etc. Infrastructure: All types of facilities are available in our department. There are 3 hostels, a huge central library, and Wi-Fi are available, but the speed of Wi-Fi is not much good. Currently, the mess facility is not available in our college. There is a canteen. Special doctors are recruited for college students. Every type of checkup is done on a monthly basis. Faculty: To be honest, I am a bit dissatisfied with the faculty members of our department. As it is a government college, most of the faculty members are recruited on a contract basis. They are helpful and work hard, but I think they are not well qualified. The curriculum course is very relevant, and there is a big scope in this field for the students. Other: I chose this course because the competition in this field is too less, and it is very easy to get placed from this course. S Sandeep barnwal | B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology - Batch of 2021 Verified Reviewed on 31 Jul 2021 3.6 Placements 3 Infrastructure 3 Faculty & Course Curriculum 4 Crowd & Campus Life 4 Disclaimer: This PDF is auto-generated based on the information available on Shiksha as on 23-Sep-2021. No offer till we get Only social service people Ngo Social services But this year we feel a form for placement let SEE what will happen but no placement took place in my subject sociology that's it but good in lecture nothing else . Infrastructure: Very bad Wi-Fi network available but it do not work properly but sometimes its going good but not so good. Classroom is quite good but not best Ya library is available and it is good Hostel is not good the condition of hostel is very bad. Nobody study there. Faculty: Ya teacher are very helpful. Semester exam is not so tough pass percentage is above 45% in each subject Teachers are so much helpful but student do not want to study because all want to do politics u can say that Patna college is hub of politics. Other: On an average all the things. A Abhishek Kumar | B.A. (Hons.) in Sociology - Batch of 2021 Verified Reviewed on 9 Aug 2021 4.0 Placements 2 Infrastructure 4 Faculty & Course Curriculum 5 Crowd & Campus Life 4 I suggest others to take admission here. Placements: Patna College is situated on the bank of Ganga. Patna College has been the creator and nurturer of what is great in the state of Bihar today. Most of the children here definitely do something good in life. This is the number 1 college of Patna in terms of studies, but there is no placement of students from here. No company shows their interest here, and the main reason for this is the lack of attention of the university administration and the government to this college. But some NGOs are very active in this college, like Medha, who prepares students for placements and also help in placements. This year, some companies like Tata, Wipro, etc., have shown their interest, in which very few students have been selected. Patna College offers only Bachelor of arts. Along with it, Hindi, English, Urdu, and Sanskrit languages are also taught. Infrastructure: Patna College was built by the Dutch in 1600AD. Its building is very big and beautiful. The classrooms are also big and beautiful. Ganga Ghar is visible from some of the classes here, whose view is quite beautiful. Earlier, Patna College is also known as Oxford of the East. All the subjects of Arts are taught here. The professors are very helpful who explain easily. There is also a large library on campus, in front of which there is a beautiful park. The name of the library is Gyan Mandir. All the books related to the subjects are available here, which you can take home for some days. Wi-Fi facility is available Disclaimer: This PDF is auto-generated based on the information available on Shiksha as on 23-Sep-2021. throughout the campus, but sometimes, there is slow internet. The hostels of Patna College are quite beautiful and big, and the rooms are clean. There is good electricity and water facility. Each hostel has its own ground where students play in the evening. All the newspapers go to the hostel every day. Mess facility is not present in the hostels here, but it is expected that this facility will start soon. There is a canteen in the college where tea, samosas, snacks, etc., are available, and one can sit there and have lunch with friends. For college students, there is a hospital in the university, where only the students and staff if the university are treated. The facilities there are excellent, medicines are given free of cost to the children. Patna College has three big grounds where cricket, football, and volleyball are played regularly. Apart from this, a sports week is celebrated every year. There are different types of sports played. Each winner is awarded by the vice-chancellor of Patna University. Apart from this, there are inter-college or university games, in which students go out to play. Faculty: The teachers are very supportive, which is quite knowledgeable and well qualified. Their way of teaching is very good, which is easily understood by the child. The subjects taught here gave us the knowledge of the social sector to the students. It is considered quite right for the students who want to go to civil services. The examinations are a bit difficult, but if the students work hard, they can easily pass. It is mandatory to score 45% in the honors subject. Other: Our college has a very good history. It is believed that it motivates the students to join politics and civil services. The first Chief Minister of Bihar has been a student of this college, and there are thousands of such students who have joined civil services. After studying from here, your attitude towards your society changes. Scholarships run by the government are available here. Freshers, farewell, etc., parties are celebrated by the students. You can get the solution to any problem from seniors, without any hesitation. Placements: Almost 2% of the students from the batch got placements, but this rate is very low compared to colleges of other states and universities. The top company which recently visited here was Wipro. Some of our seniors had gone to Delhi central ministry for internships. Salary packages offered here were very low.

The Pennsylvania State University The Graduate School College of the Liberal Arts TERRITORIAL SELF-FASHIONING: PLACE-MAKING IN LATE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY COLONIAL INDIA A Dissertation in History by Aryendra Chakravartty © 2013 Aryendra Chakravartty Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy August 2013 The dissertation of Aryendra Chakravartty was reviewed and approved* by the following: David Atwill Associate Professor of History and Asian Studies Director of Graduate Studies Dissertation Adviser Chair of Committee Joan B. For the provincial literati, emphasizing Bihar as an “organic” entity cultivated a sense of common belonging that was remarkably novel for the period, particularly because it implied that an administrative region had transformed into a cohesive cultural unit. The transformation is particularly revealing because the claims to a “natural” Bihar was not based upon a distinctive language, ethnicity or religion. Instead this regional assertion was partially instigated by British colonial politics and in part shaped by an emergent Indian national imagination. The emergence of a place-based Bihari identity therefore can only be explained by situating it in the context of 19th century colonial politics and nationalist sentiments.

Introduction: This study attempts to investigate the specific themes of inequality, violence, and poverty captured through media reports, in the context of Patna urban area. The added attempt is to capture other themes emerging out of the media coverage of crime situation in Patna urban area. Media reports inform that urban Patna is a violent and volatile society, predominantly inflicted with different types of crime of violent nature. Reflections through media on poverty and inequality issues demonstrate that urban Patna is a highly stratified society in terms of economic, social, cultural and political conditions. Poverty and inequality often generate and perpetuate crime, however, in many cases, it is affluence and consumerist culture that ignites criminal instinct and perpetuates crime. Social tension and insecurity associated with unemployment, poverty, and inequality may turn a civilian into a criminal, however, power, security, and prosperity also drives them to commit crime against those powerless or less powerful. The failure of the state agencies to perform and deliver basic facilities to common people must be put under the category of ‘crime’ against the affected segment of the society, from a different perspective. The vast section of the society living in underprivileged and insecure living condition turns violent to protest against the state, criminals and civil society, at critical occasions, and often, commit crime.
