Approximately $30 million will again be paid to PA-Breds racing in the state in 2018. There is plenty of opportunity to earn, with an average of 400+ restricted races for state-breds over the past seven years. PA-Breds can race at three different tracks offering 460 days of racing. Breeders receive awards of 50 percent of the purse earned on all Pennsylvania maiden races through third place and 40 percent in all other races if the PA-Bred runner is sired by a registered Pennsylvania stallion. A breeder of a non-state sired runner will receive 25 percent for all maiden races through third place and 20 percent in all other races in Pennsylvania. The potential is there to earn money even when the horse is no longer owned by the breeder, as long as the runner races in the state. Owners also reap rewards, up to 40 percent, in all non-restricted races, paid through third place. PA- Sired PA-Breds can earn up to 25 percent extra in all PA-Bred Stakes races.
