Korea and Japan (Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu). It was authored and named in 1852 by the German botanist Henrich Gustav Reichenbach (1824-1889). It has been officially classed in the past as Orchis as well as Gymnadenia. But ever since Maekawa in 1971 with the publication of his beautifully illustrated Wild Orchids of Japan in Colour, the name Ponerorchis has held sway and continues to do so to this day. -

In this study, we aimed to determine the factors influencing nest site selection during nest relocation which is regularly promoted by hurricanes in this area. Using ants with and without previous experience of Ae. bracteata, we tested their preference for refuges consisting of Ae. bracteata leaves over two other bromeliads, Ae. bromeliifolia and Ananas comosus. We further evaluated bromeliad-associated traits that could influence nest site selection (form and size). Workers with and without previous contact with Ae. bracteata significantly preferred this species over others, suggesting the existence of an innate attraction to this bromeliad. While we normally meet at the Civic Garden Center, we plan, at present, to meet online with Zoom. We will be emailing Zoom meeting information for our society and for other societies as they offer their meetings to our members. We are also sharing members’ orchids with an online Show-and-Tell. Presidents Note Greetings Hope everyone is doing well and the more steady warm weather is almost here. With many shows and Photo by Rick Noel events still canceled many of us are ordering plants from vendors. What to do after your orchids arrive: Potted/Mounted plants 1. Inspect for bugs and disease and treat appropriately with recommended products which can easily be researched online. 2. Treat stems and leaves for any sign of disease or infestation with appropriate fungicide and pesticide if required. Let dry before potting and wear disposable nitrile gloves when handling treated plant. Always read and follow the chemical label. 3. Water and repot/remount if needed. 4. Place plants in a quarantine status for a week away from other plants in your collection. 5. Keep them in lower than their recommended light levels during the quarantine period. 6. Record information on each plant for identification and future reference. Bare root orchid plants. 1. At room temperature make up a solution of sugar water. This is 1 to 2 tsp of table sugar per gallon of water. -

Este documento ha sido preparado por la Secretaría. Información general 2. En su 15ª reunión (PC15, Ginebra, mayo de 2005), el Comité de Flora acordó que, con arreglo a lo dispuesto en el párrafo b) de la Resolución Conf. 12.8 (Rev. CoP13), debería realizarse un examen del comercio de Aloe ferox, Christensonia vietnamica, Euphorbia candelabrum, Euphorbia stellata, Myrmecophila tibicinis, Nardostachys grandiflora, Pachypodium bispinosum, Pachypodium succulentum, Pterocarpus santalinus, Rauvolfia serpentina y Taxus wallichiana. 3. WILSON Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and Claremont Graduate University, 1500 North College Avenue, Claremont, California 91711 ([email protected]) ABSTRACT Iris gatesii is a rare bearded species in subgenus Iris section Oncocyclus that occurs in steppe communities of southeastern Turkey. This species is not commonly cultivated, but related species in section Iris are economically important horticultural plants. The complete plastid genome is reported for I. gatesii based on data generated using the Illumina HiSeq platform and is compared to genomes of 16 species selected from across the monocotyledons. This Iris genome is the only known plastid genome available for order Asparagales that is not from Orchidaceae. The I. gatesii plastid genome, unlike orchid genomes, has little gene loss and rearrangement and is likely to be similar to other genomes from Asparagales.
