The bulk of companies listed are those that either salvage or sell building materials. For ease of use, the directory lists companies in two ways: To compile this directory, many different sources were • Alphabetically by state and then alphabetically by utilized. First and foremost, the Internet was extensively company type searched using several search engines. Lists of contact names were also created from a host of published green • Alphabetically by company type and then alphabetically building resource guides, the National Wood Recycling by state directory, lists of organization memberships (such as the Used Building Materials Association), and attendee lists from conferences related to this field. The directory uses a code to categorize companies by their primary activities: BR Broker of recovered materials CN Building contractor or trade that uses reclaimed lumber in projects DC Deconstruction company that practices partial or whole building disassembly for the purposes of recovering building materials for reuse DM Demolition company that engages in selective dismantling and deconstruction EQ Producer or dealer of equipment used in building deconstruction (this does not include heavy equipment) EV Environmental services company (such as asbestos or lead abatement) RC Materials recycler, and not intended to be inclusive (for example, a concrete recycler would not be listed) UMS Used building materials retail sales VA Producer/seller of value-added products In many cases, the companies listed engage in a variety of overlapping activities. For this reason, many companies listed have more than one associated code. The most common examples of overlap include wood salvaging for the purposes of value-added product manufacturing and demoli- tion companies that augment these services with used building materials retail sales. If the company indicated that they primarily deal with specific species of wood, these are listed under “Species.” ii Directory of Wood-Framed Building Deconstruction and Reused Wood Building Materials Companies, 2005 Robert H.
