Visa Fee Rates Payment in Cash and by Vale Postal: Passport Holders Visa Fee Rates Payment in Cash and by Vale Postal: The Embassy does NOT accept visa fees by credit / debit cards or by personal cheques. If the payment is made at the visa counter at the Embassy, the fee should be paid in cash. However, in some situations Portuguese nationals can send their applications by post. In that case they will have to send a postal order for the visa fee plus Euro 2.50. (This Euro 2.50 is charged for returning the passport to the applicant by post). [Please NOTE that non-Portuguese passport holders can sent their applications by post only if they are permanently resident in Portugal. Such applications should be sent by registered post only, and not by ordinary post or courier]. A postal order for this amount should be sent with the application. For example: A Portuguese national applies for 6 months Entry Visa. At the counter he will pay Euro 97 in cash. If he sends the application by post, he will send a postal order of Euro 99.50. Another example: If a Portuguese national applies for 1 year Business Visa at the visa counter of the Embassy, he will have to pay in cash Euro 147. However, if he decides to send his application by post he will send a postal order of Euro 149.50 For Non-Portuguese Nationals: (Visa fees for British and Sri Lankan nationals is given in separate tables below. If the application is sent by post, please add Euro 2.50 to these fees.) First check if your nationality–visa type combination exists in the Special Fees Table i.e. Table 2. If the nationality–visa type combination exists in this table, the fee given in this table will apply. OR if it does not exist, the fee mentioned in the Normal Fees table i.e. Table 3 will apply. To the fee in Special Fees Table and the Normal Fees table add the following charges: (These charges do not apply to British and Sri Lankan Nationals, as they have already been included in their fee tables) From European nationalities: Euro 5 + 2 = Euro 7 If the nationality is from North America / Latin America: Euro 10 + 2 = Euro 12 If the nationality is from other countries: Euro 15 + 2 = Euro 17 Note: In case of non-Portuguese nationals, only those who are permanently resident in Portugal may send their applications by post. If the application is sent by post, please add Euro 2.50 as postal charges to return your passport to you. If the application is presented directly at the visa counter of the Embassy, the payment will be made in cash. If the application is sent by post, a postal order for the visa fee plus Euro 2.50 should be sent. Payment of Euro 50 + 7 can be made in cash at the visa counter of the Embassy. If the application is sent by post, a postal order of Euro 59.50 will be needed. The Nationality Law Committee at CIP assesses applicants’ processes based on every single element that may guarantee that they have a tradition of belonging to a Sephardic community of Portuguese origin – e.g. the family surnames (and not only the applicant’s last name), the lists of surnames of the traditional Sephardic families of the countries where their forebears settled in the last five centuries, the communities and synagogues they belonged to, cemetery records, the types of ketubot and other objects the families may have kept down to the present, the religious or food rites and customs, episodes narrated in history books about the Portuguese Jewish diaspora, the applicant’s connection to the Jewish world in the present and their statues in the light of Halacha, the religious temples they still frequent today and the knowledge, however limited, of the history of such families by famous academics or Rabbis recognised by organisations with Halachic credibility – critically articulated with our knowledge and understanding of the reality, culture, religious law and Jewish communities as a whole and with other materials gathered throughout the assessment process, using the work tools at our disposal.

    Special Regime for Sephardic Jews in order to obtain Portuguese Citizenship and EU Passport “…for some Jews, the Portuguese passport will represent the return to the lost homeland, … for others it is an opportunity to gain free access to the European Union!” LawLaw The Decree-Law 30-A/2015 was approved on 27 February. This Decree-Law amends the Portuguese Regulation on Citizenship (Regulamento da Nacionalidade Portuguesa). It establishes the requirements for the descendants of Sephardic Jews of Portuguese origin to obtain Portuguese citizenship and lists the documents that must be submitted together with the Portuguese citizenship application. Sephardic Jews from all over the world are now entitled to apply for Portuguese nationality, with all the associated benefits of having an EU passport. Adult or emancipated foreigners (family members’ citizenship may be applied for after); 2. That have not been convicted of a crime punishable, according to Portuguese Criminal Law, with imprisonment for a minimum of three years; 3. State and demonstrate in the application the circumstances that establish the tradition of belonging to a Sephardic community of Portuguese origin. 1 Therefore, it is not necessary either to speak Portuguese or to reside in Portugal, or speak Portuguese language as required by the normal route into citizenship by naturalization.
