IHG Shelter in Storm Programme 1 IHG Shelter in a Storm Programme - overview • Provides hotels with guidance on how and when to respond to disasters • The IHG Shelter Fund – made up of fundraising donations gives us the means to respond fast • Supported by a dedicated website www.ihgshelterinastorm.com • The programme leverages the expertise of CARE, our strategic disaster relief partner • Helps hotels build stronger links with communities, guests and employees • We have activated 12 times already in 2013! 2 Examples of where we have activated UK China Japan North America x6 Philippines Thailand Indonesia South America Fiji x2 3 Marlo Reyes, a waiter from InterContinental Manila’s Prince Albert Rotisserie experienced heavy flooding in their home for 4 days due to Habagat and Typhoon Maring. He and his family got stranded inside their house in waist deep water. They tried to save all their valuable belongings like furniture, appliances, tricycle but unfortunately due to extreme rainfall & flood, they were unable to save everything; some of their furniture and their house got damaged and a few of their pets died. He is still thankful that there were no lives lost among his family members. The silver lining in this tragedy, as per Marlo, is the overwhelming help extended by IHG Shelter in a Storm Program. The assistance was given without him or his co-employees having to ask for it.
