3 Marlo Reyes, a waiter from InterContinental Manila’s Prince Albert Rotisserie experienced heavy flooding in their home for 4 days due to Habagat and Typhoon Maring. He and his family got stranded inside their house in waist deep water. They tried to save all their valuable belongings like furniture, appliances, tricycle but unfortunately due to extreme rainfall & flood, they were unable to save everything; some of their furniture and their house got damaged and a few of their pets died.

He is still thankful that there were no lives lost among his family members. The silver lining in this tragedy, as per Marlo, is the overwhelming help extended by IHG Shelter in a Storm Program. The assistance was given without him or his co-employees having to ask for it. Marlo still manages to wear a big smile on his face despite the calamity. “Sobrang nakakatuwa kasi hindi nila kami nakalimutan ng IHG” (We are very happy because we were not forgotten by IHG), were Marlo’s grateful words. 4

Hotel guidance on when and how to respond to disasters was developed as part of the Crisis Management Toolkit and cascaded to our hotels in Q4 2012.
