Dear Commission

I recently submitted a hard copy of my proposal for the restructuring of Babergh District Council for a reduced number of ward members.

Attached is an electronic version of the same proposal that may assist your eventual publication of all submissions.

Alan

Alan Ferguson District Councillor – South Cosford Ward

 To ensure that single member Wards are created where possible. This is not possible in urban wards with large populations but this proposal demonstrates that it is achievable in most rural Wards.

 This restructuring option does not attempt to change Ward boundaries for political gain.

 This submission does not attempt to show the road by road boundaries in the urban areas such as Sudbury and Hadleigh which have multi-Member Wards. The specifics of this requirement are best addressed during the later consultation phase.

 Proposed Ward names have been omitted at this stage as the prime focus and challenge currently is the need to develop a proposal that will reduce Babergh from 43 to 31 Wards. Ward names may be agreed as part of the next consultation phase.

 Should the Boundary Commission wish to discuss the solution proposed we will be pleased to engage in email or face to face communication as required.

Finally, we wish to stress that this proposal is independent from any that may be submitted by Babergh District Council Members following the Council Meeting planned for 7th August 17, when various options will be debated.

Yours sincerely
