News cont. TIME OUT FOR STEVENS Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens has called time on his riding career and will undergo knee replacement surgery in hopes of resuming his career at a later date. The 51-year-old jockey, who returned to the saddle in 2013 after an eight-year hiatus, is expecting the recovery time from the surgery to take approximately six months, however, indicated a return to the saddle would be contingent on his progress. AMy knee is throwing in the white flag,@ explained Stevens. AI rode last weekend in New York and Monmouth Park, and on the flight back [to California], my knee was really aggravated. I had a procedure done [last] Monday and the knee didn=t react well to it.
