Start Download (Free) Instant Free Download. PDF Pronto 100% Full Version! Michael Doherty's Music Log Sharing my love of music. Friday, November 27, 2015 Lyn Stanley: “Interludes” (2015) CD Review It’s amazing to me that Lyn Stanley’s singing career began only four and a half years ago. Listening to her new CD, Interludes, her third full-length album, you’d think she’d been singing professionally her whole life. On this CD, she does some jazz standards, but also delivers some surprising choices of material, all of the songs in some way related to love and relationships. And she has a great band backing her, displaying undeniable talent while remaining in support of her vocals. I absolutely love her style. She has a voice for night, and some of these tracks (like “The Island”) feel like that magic time when the night is basically over but there is still the possibility of squeezing some more intimate moments from it. That in-between time when everything is possible and the consequences seem distant and unimportant. It’s great to be able to visit that place through music. Lyn Stanley opens this album with “How Long Has This Been Going On?” I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again here: You can’t go wrong with Gershwin. Lyn delivers the first few lines a cappella, so right away you get an idea of what she can do vocally. It’s a fairly smooth, relaxed rendition, and it features Bob McChesney on trombone. Lyn Stanley follows that with “Just One Of Those Things.” Going from Gershwin to Cole Porter, she shows us what she can do with material from the greatest songwriters.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION FOR THE MUSICIAN IN YOU ■ Songwriting by Christopher Ward ■ Clarence “Leo” Fender: The Life of a Legend ■ Computer Recording 101 ■ It’s About Time: Working on Your Meter ■ Self-Marketing for Musicians Talks Music & Musicianship Where The Music Begins. 722 Rosebank Road Pickering, ON L1W 4B2 3617912 GUITARS Clarence “Leo” Fender THE LIFE OF A LEGEND Seldom can a global cultural shift be attributed to a single individual, but such is the case with Leo Fender. Clarence Leonidas “Leo” Fender, born Aug. 10, 1909, in a barn on his parents’ ranch straddling the border between Fullerton and Anaheim, California, founded the Fender Electric Instrument Company in 1946 in Fullerton. By 1950 he was leading what has become the most potent creative surge in the history of electrical instrument design and manufacturing. Among his many monumental accomplishments, he designed the first commercially successful solid-body guitar, the Telecaster; invented the solid body electric bass guitar, which transformed popular music; and introduced the most influential of all electric guitars—the Stratocaster. His amplifiers set the gold standard for tone and reliability against which virtually all amps are still judged more than half a century later. Leo Fender’s ideas have had an incalculable effect on popular music of all styles and on the much broader fabric of popular culture. His instruments and amplifiers helped change the way musicians work with their tools, facilitated new sounds and techniques, and helped revolutionize the way the entire industry designs and builds instruments. Most significantly, they helped ignite entirely new and tremendously exciting styles of music.

  • Heaven to the Lonely
HEAVEN TO THE LONELY February 3, 2019 Epiphany 4 Psalm 71:1-6 1st Corinthians 13:1-13 (prayer) Open our hearts, O God, to encounter your word with fresh ears today. Amen. // // In the late 1980s, Canadian songwriters, David Tyson and Christopher Ward, penned two songs that launched the career of a rock singer from Toronto. In the heyday of music video TV channels, Tyson and Ward's songs Love Is and Black Velvet were both released as singles on the self-titled debut album of Alannah Myles. Both songs were nominated for Juno Awards in 1990 (The Canadian Grammys): actually competing against each other for single of the year. Black Velvet (deservedly) won. Ward and Tyson won the Juno for best composer. And Myles won for album of the year and most promising female vocalist. She went on to win the 1991 Grammy for best female rock vocal performance for Black Velvet. Alannah Myles continued to record and release albums into this decade, but sadly, as it sometimes goes in the music industry, that 1989 debut album was the peak of Alannah Myles’ career. It all started with the song, “Love Is”. A rock song about the precious, but elusive nature of love… it can be hard to get, impossible to hold and yet, sometimes it is simply all we have to give. Have a listen. // // // I didn't play the video because I thought that the black leather and red shoes and lipstick might have been distracting. But, I'll put a link to the video with my sermon on the website.
