Thursday 19th October 2017 Term 1, Issue 1 Message from Miss Hewett

Contact Information Dear Parents/carers Shorne Church of Primary School This has been another busy and successful term and I would like Cob Drive to thank you all for your continued support. Shorne Nr Ofsted Kent DA12 3DU I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of staff and pupils, along with the contributions from parents and the wider Fax: community have resulted in another grading of GOOD from Of- 01474 822312 sted. The detailed letter provided feedback from the Inspector Telephone: and was incredibly positive and really does reflect the “caring, 01474 822312 nurturing school” that we are. I will carrying on working closely with Mrs Tunnicliffe and the Trust to ensure that improvements Email: continue. The staff at Shorne are an incredible team and have [email protected] worked fantastically hard this term to provide the best educa- tion they can for your children.

Curriculum Accelerated Reader has been a huge success so far in KS2. Moni- toring has shown that our pupils have made progress in reading and they talk about it with excitement. We can always improve further but we need to be proud of all our success too. Thank you for your support in encouraging your children to read. Daily reading at home can accelerate progress and this builds confi- dence and enjoyment across the rest of the curriculum too. If we keep up this trajectory of improvement all the children of Shorne Church of England Primary School will be set for great things.

Attendance and Behaviour Attendance is a key area of focus and we are striving for all classes to be 97% or above. This is an Ofsted requirement and as a school we are judged against this.

Thursday 19th October 2017 Term 1, Issue 1

As part of a school council meeting I discussed attendance with the children and weekly rewards are already in place. School Council suggested the class with the best attendance for each term should be rewarded with wearing their own clothes for one day. We are going to put this in place and this term's winner is Class 5. They will be allowed to wear their own clothes on Friday 3rd No-

vember 2017.

Below are the attendance figures for each class.

Rabbits 98.2% Hedgehogs 96.4% Badgers 97.5% Eagles 97.4% Dolphins 98.4% Pandas 99.1% Tigers 96.9%

Friendship Week and Multi Faith Week As a Christian school we promote tolerance and understanding of other faiths so that our children grow up in a loving and respectful society. During the week of the 13th-17th November we will be celebrating this further during Multi Faith week. Alongside Multi Faith week we are holding Friendship week where we will focus on friendship, kindness and respect. We will be encouraging children to play with someone they have not spent time with before thereby hoping to create new friendships.

We would like you to support this ethos at home and join in with our celebrations. If there are any parents or carers who would like to share their knowledge of their faith in the form of an ac- tivity, talk, cooking or even just sharing your experiences please contact your class teacher.

Security and Procedures To improve the security of the school I am currently researching options for this which I will pre- sent to governors in due course and of course keep you informed of the outcome.

All that is left to say is to wish everyone a safe and happy half term and to see you all again on Monday 30th October 2017.

With kind regards

Tara Hewett Acting Head of School www.shorne.kent.sch.uk
