DELAWARE GENERAL ASSEMBLY LEGISLATIVE HALL DOVER, DELAWARE 19901 March 4, 2021 Jeff Bezos Chief Executive Officer Amazon.com, Inc. 410 Terry Ave. N Seattle, WA 98109 Andy Jassy Chief Executive Officer Amazon Web Services 410 Terry Ave. N Seattle, WA 98109 RE: Encouraging a free and fair National Labor Relations Board election Dear Mr. Bezos and Mr. Jassy: Last week President Biden delivered a clear and unequivocal message to Amazon, its many thousands of employees, and the American people: Workers in the United States have the right and the freedom to organize and to advocate for their best interests in the workplace, and no company has the right to silence their voices, period. We write to echo the President’s sentiments and strongly urge Amazon to respect a free and fair National Labor Relations Board election in Bessemer, Alabama that will have implications for workers all across the nation, including several thousand of our constituents in Delaware. Amazon has realized enormous success through the pandemic, reaping record profits while continuing to grow and expand its services to an ever greater number of customers. While technology and innovation play key roles in Amazon’s unprecedented achievements in the world of commerce, your company is built on its workers. Your professional accomplishments and your personal fortunes are directly attributable to the productivity of Amazon’s workforce. Please remember this as you direct your company strategy related to organized labor and the fair treatment of your employees. Reports of the tactics employed by Amazon to oppose the organization effort in Alabama are troubling to say the least.

  • DELAWARE GENERAL ASSEMBLY STATE of DELAWARE May 6, 2021 Senator Thomas R. Carper 513 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 2
DELAWARE GENERAL ASSEMBLY STATE OF DELAWARE LEGISLATIVE HALL DOVER, DELAWARE 19901 May 6, 2021 Senator Thomas R. Carper 513 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510 Senator Christopher A. Coons 218 Russell Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510 Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester 1724 Longworth House Office Building Washington, D.C. 20515 Dear Delaware Congressional Delegation: Representation is at the very heart of what we as elected officials do: We represent constituents. We represent their issues, concerns, beliefs and interests, and we take action on their behalf. It is a basic function of government that ensures that all residents have a voice in the decisions that impact their lives. But for 712,000 American citizens living just 90 miles away, representation has been denied, despite their repeated requests to be made whole. The residents of Washington, D.C., live just footsteps from the seat of the United States government, but they have no say in the public policy that is enacted there. Despite District of Columbia residents endorsing statehood via a district-wide referendum in 2016 by 86 percent, Congress has refused to take action. We write to fully endorse and support S.51, legislation from Senator Carper that would establish Washington, D.C., as the 51st state in our union. We thank Senator Coons and Representative Blunt Rochester for their support of this important and historic legislation, and we urge you to act decisively to ensure that these Americans’ voices are heard and represented. By making the District of Columbia a state, Congress will finally give District citizens full voting representation in our government, which will also give them control of their local affairs.

  • ACTION REQUESTED on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, the Delaware Joint Finance Committee
Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center P. O. Box 216 *501 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 - 302-227-2233 *800-441-1329 *Hotline 302-227-6446 *Fax 302-227-8351 - [email protected] *www.beach-fun.com TIME SENSITIVE – ACTION REQUESTED On Tuesday, May 30, 2017, the Delaware Joint Finance Committee (JFC) voted to eliminate the current 1% allocated funding to all State Convention & Visitor Bureaus (CVB’s), which is currently a portion of the 8% lodging tax collected by hotels and motels Statewide. This would also terminate the portion of the same 1% which is currently distributed to all Chambers of Commerce in Sussex County. The allocation to Chambers in Sussex is tied to stringent requirements with regard to marketing expenditures and recorded proof of return on investment. On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, the Rehoboth Beach Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce (RBDBCC) Legislative Representative, Mark Lally, as well as several of our tourism partners and Carol Everhart, met at Legislative Hall in the hope that there would be an opportunity to address the JFC. The operating procedure in place did not allow that opportunity. Below you will find a list of the current JFC members. We are seeking your assistance in personally contacting members of the JFC and/or your legislators by phone or in person to seek their support. We did not provide e-mails, as legislators are more receptive to personal contact. If 7 of the 12 member JFC vote in favor, the 1% could be placed back into the budget. The loss of this allocated revenue would, at a minimum, deplete or severely cut the marketing ability for Sussex Chambers, and in some cases, could put them out of business.

  • 2019 Monoblogue Accountability Project Delaware Edition
2019 monoblogue Accountability Project Delaware Edition A voting summary for the Delaware General Assembly ©2019 Michael Swartz. Reprint permission is granted with credit to “Michael Swartz at monoblogue” (with link) Introduction I began the monoblogue Accountability Project in 2008 to grade all 188 members of the Maryland General Assembly on whether they voted in what the author considered a conservative manner or not. But in 2017 I decided to add a Delaware edition which would grade the First State's 62 legislators in a similar manner to how I rated the Maryland General Assembly because I was working in the state at the time. After the 2018 session I retired the original Maryland edition, but since my wife and I have subsequently invested in Delaware through the purchase of our house I’m now making this Delaware edition an annual guide. Like my previous Delaware editions, I will do floor votes on 25 separate bills of interest that had both House and Senate votes. Legislators are listed in alphabetical order, which makes it easy to compile votes because the tally sheets are somewhat (as I'll explain later) alphabetical in Delaware. Thus far since the 2018 election there has not been turnover in the Delaware General Assembly so all are graded on 25 votes. The method to my madness The next portion of the monoblogue Accountability Project explains why votes are tabulated as they are. The first few pages will cover the bills I used for this year’s monoblogue Accountability Project and the rationale for my determining whether a vote is “right” or “wrong.” 25 floor votes are tallied, and there is a perfect possible score of 100 for getting all 25 votes correct: a correct vote is worth four points and an incorrect vote is worth none.
