August speaker : Senator PACS – SUPER PACS – AMERICAN POLITICS By Virginia Finnigan

All we hear about in the national political arena are the Super PACS (political action committee). . . SHRW is about to join this elite group of PAC participants. Not a Su- per PAC, but nonetheless a PAC. Due to the recent rulings by Nevada’s Secretary of State, if Republican Women’s Clubs want to raise funds and make donations to state and local candidates they must do so though a PAC. Because of this ruling, the Southern Nevada women’s clubs are in the process of forming a PAC. This Pac will be called Republican Women of Southern Nevada PAC or RWSNPAC.

Any one person or any organization can also contribute to this PAC. It will be con- trolled by the Federated Women’s Clubs in Southern Nevada. Any club that donates at least $300 a year will be able to participate in electing officers for the PAC, but only clubs that donate $2,500 ($1,000 the second ) year will be able to vote on which candidates get the money.

The Board of SHRW has voted to make the initial $2,500 contribution from our budgeted Campaign funds and to take part in the organization of this PAC. Other clubs have not yet agreed to join and make a contribution, but most of the 7 south- Sydney Ingram ern clubs eligible will probably join at least at the $300 level, with probably at least 3 at the $2,500 level. SHRW will be represented by Daryll Ann Carter-Sulliman ini- tially on the PAC level and Virginia Finnegan will fill the club’s seat on the PAC Board. All members of SHRW would be welcomed at the PAC meetings to learn more about how we can financially support our candidates.

SHRW is in a unique position because the funds we have allocated for campaigns (currently $10,000) was not accumulated by fundraising, but through membership dues, luncheon fees, boutique and raffle ticket sales, etc. Therefore we are able to directly make contributions to state and local candidates. But the Board thinks it is important to work together with the other clubs so we can have a stronger voice in the political arena. Also, we may choose to do fundraising in the future and our in- volvement in this PAC would enable us to do so.

This PAC will not be able to donate to federal candidates; only at the state and local level. The individual federal candidates will be represented at our meetings and club members can make personal contributions directly to our US Congressional candidates.

http://www.SHRWhendersonrepublicanwomen.com CLUB MEMBERS DIAL FOR VOTES By Kris Kohn

Our telephone volunteer efforts began over Memorial Day Weekend. Many of our Club members helped Congressman Joe Heck and his staff launch their “Get Out The Vote” efforts for the Primary.

The Heck Campaign office hosted an Early Voting Kick Off Barbecue and Phone Bank. On Saturday, May 26th food, music, prizes and T-shirts energized many of our SHRW members and other fellow Republicans to make 1800 calls that day..

We forged on as we approached the Primary date of June 12th. After many hours of dialing thou- sands of calls we saw that our efforts made a difference for our candidates. Dr. Joe Heck won the primary congressional DistrictSaturday, 3 race with 90%June of the 16th, vote and Dean2012 Heller won the U.S. Senate Re- publican Primary race with 86% of the vote.

We have a long road ahead of us and need more volunteers to make Nevada Red in 2012. Come and join fellow club members in phone efforts and make a difference. Fill out one of our volunteer forms at the luncheons or email me at [email protected].

THE DEVILS IN THE DETAILS….. By Virginia Finnegan

Certainly this was true of Obama Care and it is also true in the President’s new immigration policy. For the moment, let’s set aside the debate about the legality of the President’s decision to no longer deport certain classes of illegal immigrants and to issue them work permits and discuss the “details” of this policy.

This policy applies to people who are currently under 30 years old, who arrived in the country before they turned 16 and have lived here for five years. They must also have no criminal record, have earned a high school diploma or are still in school or have served in the military. But here is the catch. The work permit they will receive will be for only two years and then they must reapply.

They have to come forward and say I am here illegally and have been for years. I want a work permit and here is where I live with my family who are also here illegally. I’ve been working here for years, either un- der the table without paying any taxes or using a stolen Social Security Card. Then they will be issued a per- mit to work for two years. At the end of this two years when there is at least a 50/50 chance that there will be a Republican president and a Republican controlled Congress that has their own ideas of what our immi- gration policy should be, they must once again come forward, declare their illegal status and apply for an- other permit saying I’m still in the country illegally along with the rest of my family, here is where I live and work and can I have a new permit. If you were this illegal immigrant would you do this? I don’t think so.

Now for the legal side of the issue. Perhaps an analogy would make it easier to understand. What if a Re- publican president said, “We’ve been trying to do away with inheritance taxes for years and those darn Democrats in Congress won’t let us. So, I’m telling everyone they don’t have to pay inheritance taxes any- more. I’m also telling the IRS that they can’t try to collect these taxes. I’m doing this because it is the right and fair thing to do. The people have already paid taxes on their money once and shouldn’t have to pay again.” How do you think that would go over?

Yes, the devil certainly is in the details.

Do you know someone in our club who is ill, has suffered a loss, or could just use a little cheer? Please contact our Sunshine Lady, Doris Federwisch, she will send greetings from the club and let them know we are all thinking of them. P.S. Check out and rate the Social Victory Center on the Facebook App Center!

HOW TO GET CONNECTED TO SVC by Lynn Armanino I was at a meeting with Team Nevada and learned how to actually use the Social Victory Center. There are a few advantages to using this tool.

1. Users can make phone calls from home 2. Your personal phone number is not shown as the phone number making the call. (This has been a big reason people did not want to phone from home.) 3. Anyone on Facebook can do this by signing up.

I just signed on and it is very easy. If you have a Facebook account, here’s what you do: 1. Enter Social Victory Center in the blank search field. 2. Click on YOUR PROFILE. 3. Complete your profile information. 4. You will then be directed to an area that says Opportunities Near You based on your zip code. This will give you News Articles, Events in Your Area, Volunteer Efforts and Trending Discussions. Come back to this area later. You’re not done yet. 5. Go to VOLUNTEER. 6. Go to RESOURCES (to the right of Locations which is in red. 7. Go to PHONE FROM HOME. 8. Follow the instructions for PHONE FROM HOME. Easy.

If you don’t have a Facebook account I strongly recommend getting one. It’s free and has become a great source of political information. There are safeguards you can put in place to maintain your privacy if that is a concern. I can help anyone with that. Feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me at 702-248-1414.
