A. Audio Recordings

The audio recordings in the David Tudor Papers consist of approximately 600 audio tapes of Tudor's performances, the performances of others, and Tudor's found sounds. Recordings have been transferred from audio cassette tapes, digital audio tapes (DAT), and reel-to-reel tapes.

Tapes have been reformatted, except for a few that were damaged and a few blank and duplicate tapes. Tapes were reformatted by John D.S. Adams and Tom Erbe, 1999-2002.

Digitized versions are available online. Access is available only to on-site readers and Getty staff.

Box numbers refer to the location of physical Use Copies.

Times are approximate and stated in (HH:MM:SS) format, where HH is number of hours, MM is number of minutes, and SS is number of seconds.

IV. David Tudor performances

This group of audio recordings includes recordings of performances by David Tudor. They have been divided into two groups: Historical Recordings and Other Recordings.

The Historical Recordings from the David Tudor Papers consist of recordings of David Tudor performing piano pieces. Included in this group are recordings (transferred from audio cassette tapes donated to the repository by John Holzaepfel in 2001) of David Tudor’s performances at the Internationale Ferienkurse für , 1956, 1958, 1959, 1961. They were recorded by IFNM, Darmstadt 1994, 2001. N.B. For these particular tapes, Tudor performs on all pieces, except where noted: i.e. Christian Wolff performing Cage piece (without Tudor). Other performers with Tudor are noted.

Other Recordings consists of recordings of David Tudor performing electronic and/or pieces.
