In it are recorded the past year’s research, educational, clinical, and other activities of the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, the International Research Center for Medical Education, and the Tokyo Society of Medical Sciences. It reports our accomplishments, and each year we make such a document freely available by publishing it on compact disk and on the Internet, expecting it to be used for internal and external evaluations. The University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Medicine was founded 150 years ago. Since then we have consistently driven Japan’s progress in medical research, medical education, and clinical care, and in some fields we have become world leaders. We have more than 1000 students in the Graduate School of Medicine, and with as many as 150 foreign researchers and students we are an international center for medical research and education. Pursuing excellence in our research, educational, and clinical activities, we will continue meeting the needs for tomorrow’s pioneers in medical sciences and clinical care. Thomas Rimer Dissertation Director ii Copyright © by Mayu Tsuruya 2005 iii Sensô Sakusen Kirokuga (War Campaign Documentary Painting): Japan’s National Imagery of the “Holy War,” 1937-45 Mayu Tsuruya University of Pittsburgh, 2005 This dissertation is the first monographic study in any language of Japan’s official war painting produced during the second Sino-Japanese War in 1937 through the Pacific War in 1945. This genre is known as sensô sakusen kirokuga (war campaign documentary painting). Japan’s army and navy commissioned noted Japanese painters to record war campaigns on a monumental scale. Military officials favored yôga (Western-style painting) for its strength in depicting scenes in realistic detail over nihonga (Japanese-style painting). The military gave unprecedented commissions to yôga painters despite the fact that Japan was fighting the “materialist” West. Large military exhibitions exposed these paintings to civilians. Officials attached national importance to war documentary paintings by publicizing that the emperor had inspected them in the Imperial Palace. This study attempts to analyze postwar Japanese reluctance to tackle war documentary painting by examining its controversial and unsettling nature.

Une bonne grosse cinquantaine de pages de lecture en perspective, vous êtes prévenus ! ITO 2010, c’est 1631 sorties réparties entre : - 1449 mangas, - 120 manhwa, - 19 mangas européens, D - 5 mangas américains, - 7 manhua, É - 4 fanbooks, par Morgan - 6 artbooks, - 7 anime-comics, - 1 revue, - 6 magazines de prépublication (chez un même éditeur, Asuka), - 7 romans, ceux-ci commençant à avoir leur propre collection chez certains éditeurs. Après une petite accalmie l’année dernière, les sorties remontent donc fortement, notamment avec l’arrivée de Kazé Manga, proposant en tout 60 volumes de plus qu’Asuka seul en 2009, ainsi que l’envolée de certains éditeurs comme Glénat ou Ki- oon. 2010 a vu la sortie de 203 nouvelles séries - parmi lesquelles 13 rééditions, intégrales ou Deluxe, chez les mêmes éditeurs que leur première parution -, 85 one-shots et recueils et 134 séries achevées. Des chiffres là encore à la hausse par rapport à 2009, du fait du dynamisme gourmand de certains éditeurs. Cela nous donne en tout cas 34 éditeurs à aller visiter plus en détail...
