CAGU ORDER of MERIT - Sponsored by David Milburn CAMBRIDGESHIRE AREA GOLF UNION CAGU ORDER OF MERIT - Sponsored by David Milburn Terms of the Competition A. Accumulation of Points Players competing in major County events and matches will earn points according to their finishing position. The points awarded will be totalled throughout the year. Qualifying events and the points awarded are as follows: 1. The County Championship - 600 points for the winner down to 40 points for 20th place. Where there are ties the points will be shared. 2. The County Open - 400 points for the winner down to 20 points for 20th place. Where there are ties the points will be shared. 3. The County Foursomes – 300 points each for the winners down to 10 points each for 20th place. Where there are ties the points will be shared. 4. The County Boys Championship – 300 points for the winner down to 20 points for 10th place. 5. The Seniors Championship - 300 points for the winner down to 20 points for 10th place. 6. The Ron Freeman Foursomes – 300 points each for the winners, 200 points for the runners up, 100 points each to the losing semi – finalists, and 50 points for reaching the last 8. 7. The Wheeler Salver – 400 points for the winner, 300 points for the runner up, 200 points for the losing semi – finalists, 100 points for the losing quarter finalists, and 50 points for reaching the last 16. 8. The Gogs Trophy – Any CAGU golfer finishing in the top 20 will receive points according to their position in the competition ranging from 300 points for winning down to 10 points for finishing 20th. 9. The Lagonda Trophy - Any CAGU golfer finishing in the top 20 will receive points according to their position in the competition ranging from 400 points for winning down to 20 points for finishing 20th. 10. Anglian League A team matches – 40 points for a singles win and 20 points for a half. 20 points each for a foursomes win and 10 points for a half. 11. Anglian League B team matches – 40 points for a singles win and 20 points for a half. 20 points each for a foursomes win and 10 points for a half. 12. England Golf Midland Qualifier for the County Finals - Any member of the CAGU 6 man team finishing in the top 20 will receive points according to their position in the competition ranging from 300 points for winning down to 10 points for finishing 20th. The highest placed member of the CAGU team will receive an additional 50 points. Cambridgeshire Area Golf Limited T/A Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union Issued 1/03/20 13. Eastern Counties Foursomes – Each member of the 10 man team will receive 20 points for a foursomes win and 10 points for a halved match. 14. CAGU Scratch League –From clubs in both divisions, any team member who wins 4 matches in a season will receive 40 points, 5 wins 50 points and pro rata up to 90 points for 9 wins. Halved matches do not qualify for points. Also if a golfer wins up to 3 matches he does not qualify for points. 15. Seniors Anglian and Midland League matches etc – to be discussed for 2019. 16. Boys League matches etc – to be discussed for 2019. B Final Event The leading 30 golfers in the Order of Merit at the end of the playing season will then be invited to a final Order of Merit tournament in October every year. The winner will be awarded 1000 points, the runner up 750 points, 3rd place 500 points, 4th place 450 points. The remaining places decreasing by 50 points to 12th place. Remaining competitors will be awarded 20 points. C Prizes The winner of the Order of Merit will be authorised to claim £300 expenses in the following year, for playing in selected England Golf Order of Merit events and pro rata for finishing 2nd (£250 to 5th (£100). Where the date of a National or Regional fixture coincides with a major County event and the player opts to play in the National or Regional event, expenses will not normally be paid. However using the principle of Country 1st, County 2nd, Club 3rd & self last, the nature of the event will be considered when decisions are made on claims.     GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND WALKER CUP PROFILES: David Boote, 22, of Wales (born 9-22-93): He finished seventh in the Brabazon Trophy with a 72-hole score of 4-under 288 and was sixth in the St. Andrews Links Trophy. Boote advanced to the Round of 64 in this year’s Amateur Championship, conducted by The R&A, and made the Round of 32 in the Australian Amateur. He also tied for fourth in the Portuguese International Amateur. Boote graduated from Stanford University, where he played in every tournament for four years, earning All-America honors twice and recording 13 top-10 finishes. He nearly qualified for this year’s U.S. Open at Erin Hills but lost in a seven-man playoff in the England sectional qualifier. Boote finished ninth individually in the 2016 World Amateur Team Championship with rounds of 69-73-68-67. Boote, who also won the 2015 Welsh Amateur, reached the quarterfinals of the 2016 U.S. Amateur in his first USGA championship. Jack Davidson, 20, of Wales (born 12-13-96): He won this year’s Welsh Amateur, defeating Timothy Harry, 8 and 7, in the championship and Evan Griffith in the semifinals in 20 holes. Davidson, who started playing at age 7, also claimed the Spanish Amateur Championship after earning the last spot in match play. He posted a 4-and-3 victory over Marco Penge, of England, in the final. Davidson was also third in both the Welsh Amateur Open Stroke Play and the South American Amateur, where he was just behind Paul Chaplet and Joaquin Niemann.
