Welcome to your weekly update on the latest situation on the county’s bridges and roads following the floods 2015-16.

Whilst we will make every effort to make this as comprehensive as possible due to the high number of damaged roads and bridges each weekly update may not always include a full list of all roads and bridges in . As damage is repaired and roads and bridges re-opened the information in this update will change.

B5320 Pooley Bridge Eden Complete collapse. Open High The new temporary bridge was formally opened by Keith Little, Cabinet Member for Highways on Sunday 20th March. The bridge is a single carriageway under traffic light control, as was the old bridge. In addition it has a 1.5m wide footway on the downstream side.

Work has commenced to begin to define and assess options for a permanent replacement to be designed, procured and built over the next two years. This will involve technical appraisals and constraints mapping as well as community engagement.

The permanent resilient solution for this bridge is to replace it with a single span bridge, which the Recovery Team is now in the process of reviewing. It is expected that the timeframe for the replacement of this bridge will be a 12 to 18 month construction period, to include surveys, ground investigations, design and construction.

C5057 Ford Bridge Sth Subsided pier. Open High Ford bridge is adjacent to Sprint Bridge which is currently closed and adding to (Burneside New) Lakeland the problems at Ford Bridge. Weight restrictions of 3.5t and width restrictions in the form of traffic management are in place in order to prevent the weight restriction being exceeded.

A detailed investigation is awaited in order to allow the progression of the design for the final repair solution. Once that is complete it will be possible to confirm a timescale to remove the weight and width restrictions and re-open the bridge fully. River Dockray Hall Sth Scour damage to Closed High Inspection of Dockray Hall Bridge this week identified scour beneath the Kent Footbridge Lakeland base support of the column base on the west side of the bridge. Our contractor intends to start remedial works Wednesday 6th April and depending on river levels, we expect to reopen the bridge by the end of next week.
