DOI: 10.5294/pacla.2017.20.3.7 Abstract Telefantasy series Torchwood (2006–2011, multiple production partners) was industrially and paratextually positioned as being Welsh, despite its frequent status as an international co-production. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4. -

Olsen: San Antonio's West Side Sound San Antonio’s SideSound West Antonio’s San West Side Sound The West Side Sound is a remarkable they all played an important role in shaping this genre, Allen O. ©MySliceofMexico.ca Mexican Tripe Soup — Menudo (Pancita) Ingredients 1 lb (454 g) beef stomach tripe, pre-cooked and bleached 2-3 beef feet, pre-cooked and deboned (optional) 2 tbsp fresh epazote, chopped (if available) ½ onion 1 clove garlic 6-8 cups water 1 cup roasted guajillo adobo (recipe follows) 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp dry oregano 1 tbsp salt, or to taste 1 can 25 oz (709 g) hominy corn (optional) To serve: Chopped onion limes Dry oregano Tostadas (crisped tortillas) or tortilla chips Thoroughly rinse beef tripe and feet (if using) under running water; they should be odorless and free of impurities. Cut into bite size pieces, and place in a pot with the chopped epazote (if not available, omit), and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer, covered, for about 20 minutes. At the end of this time, most of the water has been absorbed or evaporated. Add the onion and garlic, along with about four cups of hot water, or enough to cover all the ingredients. Let it simmer for another 30 minutes, until all the beef is tender. Pour roasted guajillo adobo in, season with salt, and let it simmer for another ten minutes. Add hominy (if using), bay leaves and oregano, and simmer for another ten minutes. Remove and discard onion, garlic and bay leaves. Serve with a side of tostadas, chopped onion and limes, along with extra oregano to sprinkle on top, to taste. ©MySliceofMexico.ca Roasted Guajillo Adobo Ingredients: 10 dry guajillo peppers ¼ medium onion, cut into large chunks 1 clove garlic, peeled 1 tsp salt, or to taste Boiling water Roast pepper on a dry iron skillet until crispy but not blackened. -

2015-2016 Houston ISD Innovative Curriculum and Instruction Department MEXICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES (MAS): Course Overview Course Information: Subject area (choose only one): Social Studies Number of credits that may be earned: 1.0 Grade level(s) to be served (high school only): 9-12 Description of Course: In Mexican American Studies, an innovative course, students learn about the history and cultural contributions of Mexican Americans. Students will explore history and culture from an interdisciplinary perspective. They will have opportunities to interact with relevant film, literature, art, and other media. The course emphasizes developments in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, but students will also engage with developments prior to the twentieth century. Students have limited opportunities to examine Mexican American history and culture in depth in currently established TEKS-based courses. This innovative course provides opportunities to explore the complexities of the Mexican American experience. This course also emphasizes research skills, ensuring students are college and career ready upon graduation from high school. Essential Knowledge and Skills of Course (a) General requirements. Students shall be awarded up to one unit of elective credit for successful completion of this course. (b) Introduction.
