The castle thus has a superb commanding site with extensive views to the N, E, and S, and only on the W and NW are there no natural obstacles. Farthingstone Castle Dykes is a well preserved example of a (3m) deep, with an outer bank up to 8ft (2.5m) high. substantial but isolated motte/ringwork and A causeway crosses the ditch and provides access bailey castle with two well-defined inner baileys, from the outer bailey to the western inner bailey. and a ditched and embanked north outer bailey.
