The Scottsdale Performance Horses/Scotts- dale Western World saddle sponsored by Rolling Hills Casino was won by Kain Emmons showing Lavonne Sturgeon’s horse California Shines. Terry Skevington and Carol Lawrence our New hosts were fabulous in their hospitality and attention to details during the entire weekend. We even presented a NEW Ranch Riding Class won by Teresa Job. You should have seen the expressions on the reining horses’ face as they saw “LOGS!!!” in the center of the arena for the first time after four days of riding reining patterns through the center. It was priceless! We greatly appreciate our New Awards Volunteer Melinda Gaw who coordinated all the wonderful awards throughout the weekend, and Suzy Bond for helping unload the awards. We thank Mark Faley for opening the back gate for the Judges and Kim Vardane- ga-Kent and Terry Holland for offering to volunteer. We hope to take you up on the offers at upcoming shows. We just finished Affililiate #3 at the Brookside Rein for the Roses . Highlights are covered in this newsletter. Everyone appreciated the New Sugar Shack with yummy cappuccinos’, espressos, latté, pastries and more every morning. Our gracious host Bill Madden provided NEW sand footing in the Grand Prix and Show Arenas. We come to Brookside for Footing, Food and Fun, and as always Bill hits the mark. Even though the weather left a bit to desire, the show was well attended and besides the general NRHA classes we had some fun with a Slot Tournament which was sponsored by the Rolling Hills Ca- sino and a “Battle for the Saddle’ class sponsored by the Casino and WCRHA. ...more on page 4 California Shines ridden by Kain Emmons scored a 74. (Revised Mar. 2011) ENGLISH English Flat Classes, Hunter Hack, Hunter Over Fences, Jumper & Handy Horse (English Trail or Obstacle) Attire ASTM/SEI Helmets with chin straps securely fastened are a requirement for all English classes. Should be dark coloured or covered with a dark coloured cover. Dark coloured (or tweed) jacket. Breeches (or jodhpurs) should be neutral colors (beige, buff, light grey, or rust). Shirts should be white or light coloured, with either a collar and tie or with a choker collar (if a pin is worn, it should be smooth edged). Boots should be black or brown with a smooth sole and a heel, minimum ½”. Half chaps are allowed if brown or black and matching the boot color. Dark gloves are recommended. Numbers must be worn in a manner which is easily visible. Hair must be neat and tidy, contained in a hair net, braid or bun (off the collar). Spurs are optional, but if worn must be smooth and unrowelled and of the English type with a maximum ¾” shank length. Equipment Tack should be clean, neat and in good repair. All tack should be properly fitted. Saddle should be of the English type. Saddle pads may be fleece or cotton; a numnah shaped contoured pad is recommended. They should be solid (not patterned) and conservatively coloured (white, tan, brown, hunter green, navy, black, burgundy). Girths will be acceptable in leather, string or nylon.

A finger is not permitted between the romal reins, and the romal is not to be coiled in any manner in the free hand.

    RANCH HORSE SECTION I- RANCH HORSE GENERAL RULES Judging Criteria: 1. Horse and rider should demonstrate a willing, smooth, disciplined working relationship as they work a pattern or navigate obstacles. 2. In all gaits (SEE GAIT IN GLOSSARY), the horse should display a level, or slightly above level topline with a bright, attentive expression. Class Description: This is a practical opportunity to demonstrate mounted skills common to ranch work. Ranch strives to teach and preserve age-old techniques. The ranch horse should simulate a horse needing to cover long distances, softly and quietly, all day long, like that of a working ranch horse. SECTION II- RANCH HORSE GENERAL TACK 1. Tack should be clean, (SEE WESTERN GENERAL TACK), in good repair, common to daily use on a working ranch. Stock saddles with horn are required. a.
