Gillen, Department of Massachusetts Commander The Greater Boston Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) has resumed presenting a special award to a graduating member of one of the 10 Boston Public High School JROTC programs. We have partnered with the YMCA of Boston’s Constitution Inn in Charlestown and arranged that this $500 award be presented during Charlestown YMCA JROTC Award of Excellence ceremony. Since the JROTC units already nominate one individual for this Award of Excellence we offered those recipients the opportunity to compete for the GREATER BOSTON MOWW Chapters CAPTAIN PAUL C. DANFORTH AWARD. That way we are selecting the Best of the Best. The only requirement is that the cadet each school selected to receive the JROTC Award of Excellence, also submit a 500 word or less essay entitled “The Bill of Rights and My Responsibilities”, describing what this means to them as United States citizens. They submit their essays to their instructor who forward it with comments to the Greater Boston MOWW Chapter. This year the award went to Cadet Nancy Figueroa from East Boston High School. A copy of her essay follows below. Also below is a picture of CDR Bob Gillen presenting the check to Cadet Figueroa. 1121834-1 1121834-1 1121834-1 .
